New Les Paul Bass Copy
« on: September 01, 2016, 12:28:11 PM »
Well, new to me.

Revelation Guitars seems to have made a fairly faithful copy of the late sixties Les Paul Bass.
Pickups are supposedly made by Alan Entwistle.

Looks pretty damn good!

These have been out a wee while. Revelation make an EB-3 copy as well as the usual P and J basses, and a few interesting guitars as well, including a 12 string Jazzmaster-type thing with a trem(!). I think they also reissued an extinct brand name for a side-run of instruments. Maybe Kent or similar? They had a Strat-like 12 string available for a while that was, ostensibly, a reissue of some obscure '60s brand.

Alan Entwistle's pickups are available quite readily in the UK. Given their low cost there is no way he is winding them himself, so I do wonder if they are Artec or similar. The pickups on the Les Paul bass look pretty authentic, so it would be interesting to see their specs. I think somebody on Basschat had one of these, but I could be mistaken.

Looks great! What does the fourth knob do? Two volume, two treble maybe? That's how the new Les Paul Recording II is set up.

Yep. VV TT.
I think I read somewhere that the pickups aren't lo-z.

The website is offline.
And they're not responding on Facebook.

For once I am in aethetic agreement with Uwe.  I always liked walnut finishes that have aged a bit and gotten a bit less dang shiny.

Neat that this exists though, for that price (and if it's built decently and the neck is good) it's be worthwile to transplant some real LoZ pups in there. ... on the other hand, even if HiZ, if they are stacked buckers with blade poles like the Gibsons they might be cool enough for me to leave in there.

The Revelation website may be down but their distributors aren't:

Source:  http://www.worcesterguitarcentre.co.uk/collections/revelation-guitars . See also : http://www.hotroxuk.com/guitars/revelation-guitars.html (has a cool looking gold top version of the 6 banger LP Rec copy with white pups! but can't hot link to the pic).

Love that Jazzmaster 12 string in white.  Also cool how they seem to do lefty versions of just about every model.

I found a music store in The Netherlands that has this bass on offer.
But I don't have the money at the moment...  :-\

I emailed Entwistle pickups to see if they could tell me anything about the pups.

The one thing I don't like about the 12 string is the Strat style trem.  Just put a hard tail on it cause it's already a bear to set up properly.  ... also it just looks so damn wrong.
