New Bass Day!
« on: March 17, 2016, 09:28:14 AM »
My buddy saw this at his local GC, sent me pics and I asked him to pick it up for me. A few dings but the price was more than right! My buddy says it's a gem.

An S.D. Curlee for $189? You can hardly go wrong at that price, and it's GC, so it's returnable if there's a hidden problem.

Yeah, that seems like a nice score. Those are pretty decent basses by reputation.

That is an awesome score.

Is that their typical 32.5" scale?  Should be a fun bass (I'm digging the Dimarzios and doublecuts lately...)

Congrats!

Yep, should be 32.5".
Not much info out there, really and the Wikipedia page seems to have a lot of it. Apparently the most serious problems were occasional truss rod issues on the USA basses but I figure since my buddy said it was a gem and I'd be happy it's probably ok.

This is the Standard 2 model. The one I picked up for Hornisse a few years ago was a Standard 1. Without a doubt it was one of the cleanest sounding basses I've ever played. It was striking. Looking forward to picking this one up!

Smok'n deal! I would have grabbed that in a heart beat. Still on my list for the collection.

No, the 2-tone wood is beautiful!!  That bass is made to have a natural finish.

How much are the new ones? Birdsong's website said they were between $500 and $1000 back then.

My buddy who picked mine up for me said: "Dude. That Curlee bass is the shit! It's f***ing amazing sounding. That pickup is a beast!"
