Gibson Basses / Re: Mod collection restock update

I don't hate that LP, but I did more or less the same thing to a $200 bass with about $10 worth of acrylic paint.

(It's been this way since about 1997, and I have both sentimental fondness for this paint job and am quite tired of it)

Nice to hear Brian sing with his normal voice instead of the evil witch on helium shriek that he's been using since 1980...

Mind blown. I had no idea he could sing any other way than "the AC/DC voice". He's really good at this style. I would never in a thousand years have guessed it was Brian Johnson.

I stumbled onto this old thread and was curious, did the article ever get published?

For what it's worth, those look exactly like the tuners from my LPB1 of similar age. Per Rob's bass book they are "Gibson-branded Schaller".
I think Gearhed is right and they are Schaller M4.
Unfortunately, based on a little searching, I've seen brand new tuners called "Schaller M4" as well as vintage ones going back at least to the 70s, and the current ones look very different.  It's also confusing because there are various suffixes meaning I don't know what, but the M4S is completely different.

This one from about 1990 looks right to me, but chrome:

This one purportedly from the 1970s looks similar, but the post is a little different. https://reverb.com/item/70648599-bass-side-schaller-m4-bass-tuner-1970-s-gold-m4g-original-vintage

Bass Amps & Effects / Re: Let's see your rig!

New to me and more recently harder than hell to get is a Genzler Magellan 350 Series 2 Combo.  It's sitting on top of my Epifani UL2 212 cab which I'm selling to replace with a Genzler BA2-112-3 Cab.

Nice, and welcome!
How do you like the Genzler gear compared to Genz-Benz, did you ever play those?

I have stopped even thinking about buying new amps since I completed my current rig around 2008:
Genz-Benz Shuttle 6.0 head with one or both of EA CXL110 and EA CXL112.  If the Shuttle ever dies I would love to try a Genzler.

But, as I get older (currently 53 and not in the best shape I've been)... I start wondering if I should replace the 45-pound 112 with one of the modern ultralight cabs. The low end flatness of that cab is just amazing though.

Scorpions were a darn good band, but yeah, those lyrics ...  Many years ago a bunch of friends sat around a bonfire discussing "what is the worst song ever?" and while a lot of the usual suspects came up, I believe there was consensus that "Winds of Change" was pretty awful, largely because of the cheesy whistling and the word salad lyrics.

(Personally I still think there are much much worse songs ... "We didn't start the fire" comes to mind)

Am I nuts, or is there no A string on that EB3?

Even bands with just a single guitarist did it via double-tracking in the studio to get that sound.

The earliest "rock twin lead" example that jumps to my mind is this from 1966, well before any of the bands in this thread existed:

And of course, there was Les Paul well before that, who as usual was years ahead of everyone, but that's not really "rock".

Is there actually any significant difference between rosewood and pau ferro aside from the latter being usually a lighter color, and bragging rights?

I've always been in the "tonewoods are overblown" camp though

It's a beautiful design. I'm looking forward to seeing the brass ones completed!
