The Outpost Cafe / Tinted Windows
« on: February 26, 2009, 11:57:38 PM »
Cheap Trick, Fountains of Wayne, Smashing Pumpkins, and Hanson get drunk, get busy, and have a baby. What does the kid sound like? Like Tinted Windows... I love that three old guys and a Hanson can get together and come up with something so cool and timeless (IMHO, of course).

A picture Uwe posted in a Gibson thread reminded me that I hadn't asked here yet about something I'm trying to find.

In 1983 or 4 National Geographic had a cover story and wonderful article on a ship that (going from a 25 year old memory) became stuck in ice while traversing the arctic region and, while not sinking, was still shipwrecked when it became frozen, literally, in time. When it was found, the bodies of some on board were found mummified by the dry frozen climate. They were so well preserved that the piercing blue eyes of one 100 years dead sailor became the main thing you saw when looking at the cover that month. It gave me a recurring dream for years that involved digging up various relatives that had passed on to see how they were faring. Weird, I know, but I was only 18.

Anyway, I would really love to find that article or any additional information on the ship and sailors it told of. Does this ring a bell for anyone here? Can you point me to where I might satisfy my morbid curiosity?

As an aside, I've tried National Geographic's website but had no luck there or with any other internet searches...

If anyone can help me I figured it would be my bass brothers here. Thanks!

The Bass Zone / Gotta sell some stuff - pics and expanded list
« on: October 01, 2008, 02:45:19 PM »
Well, this not really called but still happening actor's strike is causing me more financial havoc then I ever hoped to have. Even though I'm still working at the moment, I'm not too sure how much longer I will be, so I need to free up some cash.

Before I go to eBay I thought I'd offer some stuff up here. Here's what I have up so far:

1964 Epiphone Embassy. Headstock repaired looong before I got it. All stock besides that. $2200 == deal pending ==

2001/2 Gibson Blackbird. Small chip on the headstock. Perfect for making a red baron bird or any other refinish options. $1300

1976 Thunderbird. Natural.  == This one is sold ==

77 ish Greco 4001S clone (neck thru) $650

Epi Jack Casady $600

I'll add to the list again this weekend when I'm home, but let me know if you might be interested in any of the above. I'm resigned to doing this, so it's not too painful though I'm sure it may be later. Plus actual shipping on everything.I'd rather get a check or money order to avoid Paypal fees, but if that's your only option, let's talk. Everything includes HSC unless otherwise noted.

I found a link to this website and thought I'd pass it on. If you type in your last name, you get statistics on where the name is distributed throughout the world, as well as other information. Nothing earth shattering, but kind of cool, nonetheless.

The Outpost Cafe / My New Gear Hauler
« on: July 29, 2008, 06:04:54 AM »
Well, new to me...

I've wanted a BMW wagon for a while now and finally took the plunge with this 2002 525i. All the talk about wagons in the Gibson forum a few weeks back made me realize I hadn't taken any pictures of it yet. We're on a little family vacation this week and I got inspired as we drove yesterday:

It's not as roomy as the wagons I slid around in as a kid (always a Ford in those days), but it'll hold a couple 410s and a few cases, so it'll work for me. It's doubling as my wife's new kid hauler, so unfortunately it's an auto transmission (she likes the easy life). Still, it's a nice ride.

I know there are a few wagons lurking here... Whatcha got?

This little bass looks a little like they were thinking of Gene's modified EB

Ever since that unfortunate Mutt business she's been going downhill. She is trying to get it together though. She even re-recorded one of her big hits. Here's the video:

So here it is. Any guesses as to whether this was a special order, a prototype, or..? Mark, I'll get pics with the pickup rings next weekend.  ;)

I'm commuting between LA and Utah most weekends, so I didn't get a chance to play it through an amp yet. I'll post a complete review when I can. In the meantime, here's how it looks:  ;D
