It's a little confusing. But the Mark II bass sports the Guild humbucker pickups.
They sound fine and some players swear by them.
But the M-85 basses that commanded those high prices were the earlier models
Equipped with the Bisonic pickups. Awesome sounding basses.
Post 2009 the prices paid for those dropped to around $2500,but I am basing that on one auction and a fleeting offer by someone who quickly thought better of it.
As noted above, the seller will be lucky to get $1500.

I recall using a baking soda paste to clean battery terminals. But would that be too sloppy when working in the confines of a pedal?

That, but mostly the look of the binding. I was not tempted to try it out.
If I were in a metal band, I'd probably feel differently. But maybe I'd opt for the well lower priced Epiphone Nikki Sixx bass!

« on: August 11, 2017, 09:17:19 AM »The Noir has checker binding inside black outer binding. It is not set in "a quarter inch" and is not just a painted or printed pattern. But the white checks surrounded by the black outer binding satin black finish overall may give the impression it is further inset depending on the perspective of your view. There's a closeup of the upper body of a Noir on page 141 of the new 2nd edition of my book.
Thanks. That makes sense. That said, it looked sorta cheesy to me. I think the Shadow looks a little better and the Blackstar way better.
But what do I know?

There were a series of white dashes on the face (a quarter inch in from the edge) rather than a classic checkerboard binding.

I looked at one of theses in Tokyo last week. I was not blown away by it. Especially the pseudo-binding.

Unfortunately I have passed that milestone and achieved saturation level.
Now when anything shows up at my door the standard comeback is: "I better see one go out..."

Actually I try to maintain that one in, one out rule. I figure on selling my Rick Shadow bass once a project I'm involved with now ends.
It's an XP2-A (active) model. The second I've owned.

So a Steinberger bass mysteriously arrived at my office today. I partially unwrapped it and carried it home. (I usually walk to and from work, about 20 minutes each way.)
My wife greeted me at the door and asked "what is that?" I answered, "a guitar", worried she'd be alarmed at my extravagance.
She was annoyed, but for a different reason.: "Why didn't you call me? I would have picked you up!"
