Bill's Shop: Projects, Mods & Repairs / eb4l wiring
« on: March 18, 2010, 02:08:11 AM »
i guess this is a mod so i will try posting it here.heres the circuit i have ended up with in my eb4l.front pickup is a 1966 eb3 mudbucker, rear added pickup is 2 carvin blade single coils(one rwrp)together, standard humbucker size.the pot on the left pans the tops on the rear pickup between single coil and humbucking, the switch next to it i put in because the extemes of the 500k pot sounded great but it fell off slightly in the middle.interestingly it seems to make things slightly clearer by moderating some of the mid bass and shifting the resonant peak in the tops.the pickup blend pot does just that.the switch on the mudbucker turns the tops from that pickup to single coil.i didnt expect this to do too much but i can hear it.

Bass Amps & Effects / does anyone here use 18 inch speakers
« on: August 27, 2009, 02:39:51 PM »
im using a biamed rig and i have a jbl e145 on the bottom end, nice sound only the  tone i want at the level i want makes the speaker want to get out of the box so i have been compressing the low end signal, not too satisfactory.so last night i went and bought 2 used jbl mr818 cabs,a 300watt 18 inch in each.if i run them both at 4 ohms my amp makes 750 watts so i m thinking this may do the business.im going to try them out on tuesday at rehearsal.i currently cross over to the top end amp -a marshall 9000 dual 50 watt valve amp at around 90 hz. this lets me drive the tops a little without farty distortion in the top cab.its a 4x 10 hartke at the moment though im beginning to suspect that a 2 x 12 may be better as well as easier to move.im wondering if any of you use 18s and how it works for you.
