Gibson Basses / Re: Epiphone Rex Brown Thunderbird

It appears that the pickups are 1976 Bicentennial reproductions,  interesting choice considering that the Gibson siggy has active pickups. I will be reviewing this bass soon.

The Vintera II Telecaster Bass feels and looks more like a dead nuts reissue, Fender did a really nice job on these
Tge only giveaways are the tinted neck and alder body (which I love btw).

Fender Basses / '74 Tele project and another Vintera II Tele Bass

So I decided to use my surf green Vintera Tele Bass as a donor for the '74 body I picked up on Ebay.  The parts swap went super easy and I'm really happy with the results! Looks great next to my just arrived Vintage White  Vintera II Telecaster Bass 🙂 I'll sell the green body to recoup some of my costs.

Wow it went for $976! Great deal. I've got enough EB shaped basses but someone got a helluva deal.

Just a few tid bits for the upcoming year Epiphone will be releasing thier 60s Thunderbirds in three custom colors, not the usual suspects either!
Also Epi is resurrecting a mid 70s favorite that should grab ya. All I can say for now. Happy New Year!

It's enjoyable enough, a bit like lifestyles of the Rich and and Famous for bass players.

Ian Hunter's Defiance part 1 is getting quite a bit of spin time. The man can still rock and has more to say than most. Here's Bed of Roses with Ringo and Mike Campbell.

Gibson Basses / Re: Early Grabber Bodies were alder right?

Thanks Rob I had already read Jules's section on the G series but It is one of the sources I was wondering about.  I  guess you learn something new every day.

Gibson Basses / Early Grabber Bodies were alder right?
« on: December 19, 2023, 05:23:02 AM »
I am going to ask a question that I thought I knew the answer to. The internet is making me second guess myself.  I've always thought that the Ripper, G3 and Grabber series all started production with alder bodies and maple bodies were introduced around 1978.
I'm in a discussion with a individual sitting sources (Gibson being one ) that state early Grabbers had maple bodies. Did I miss something here? Is this a case of the same incorrect source being quoted over and over again?
Help me out I feel like I'm losing my mind.
