The Outpost Cafe / Re: Why Pontiac, and not GMC???
« on: May 12, 2009, 04:14:54 PM »
At least we have the Camaro again.

I drive past a Chevy dealership on my way home from work. Today I had to do a double-take. A WTF kind of car is that thing. Oh, it's a new Camaro. It is even uglier in person than the photos suggest.

GM needs an overhaul.

Bass Amps & Effects / Re: Groove Tubes factory closes

The JJ 803S is still quite a respectable tube, richer and more musical sounding than the 83S IMHO.

Are you saying the JJ ECC803S is richer and more musical sounding than the JJ ECC83S? The JJ ECC83S has been my preamp tube of choice for quite some time,  but I made that chouce before I was aware that the 803s existed. I may want to try them.

And for what it's worth, I am pretty sure the GT ECC83S is a re-labled JJ ECC83S.

Apparently the Earth designers got lost on the concept of what makes a graphic equalizer "graphic."

Scott, although I asked for your bird and told Roman about nothing became of it. When I got invoiced for the one I was in line for I just sent payment figuring a bird in the hand was better than nothing. I would still like a second one and I did express that to Roman, but got no response. But unless you were sent an invoice and told Roman you were backing out your name should still be on the list.

@ Uwe:
8. I'm pretty sure it'll make a big difference if you put on decent strings indeed. That and raising the pickup somewhat. Actually I found out that makes a huge difference / improvement tonewise.

That is exactly what I did with mine, and it did make a big improvement.

Cool! Can you do an A/B sound review?

An A/B review of these two would be pointless if even if I could do it. The Gibson is equipped with Dimarzio pickups.

I am sure when Uwe gets his he will post a proper review and comparison to an comparable original.

Thanks for the shot!

The blue is SO cool, I'm insanely jealous.
I must be on Roman's s#&t list 'cause I haven't any email for some time now

I don't think Roman has a s#!t list. I think he is shipping these all by himself, and he has a long list. I'm sure all will get their basses eventually.

Maybe I got mine first because I'm half Bohemian. I probably have relatives over there!

Although my Gibby is much modified, the Bach is staying stock!

Regardless of the price, the Bachbird is a custom built limited edition, and at this point I may have the only one in America. I did change the strings, but that's all for now.

edit: I said "for now", but no, I don't want to change anything, I like it the way it is.

Old and new side by side:

It looks like I must like where the jack is.

Some other things I've noticed:

1. The tailpiece is farther away from the bridge. I tried to put a set of Chromes on it but the silks went over the nut about 1/4" (Also the A string was too big for the slot in the nut)

2. The pickguard is smaller and a different shape, but I like it.

3. The neck is  a little bit wider at the nut, but again, I like it.

4. The logo. It's in the wrong place and it's silver. But I like it!

You'd need a Thunderbird in that color too!

“I have an extensive instrument collection,” the one-time high-school band trumpeter explains, “because I believe that anything that inspires you to get excited about picking it up and playing music is worthwhile.”

Who can argue with logic like that? Got to save that one for the missus.

The Outpost Cafe / Re: Recipe for German Cuisine
« on: May 05, 2009, 10:19:40 AM »
I just remembered that this is the guy who pronounces Afghanistan "Afgafistan". He said something about having it at a train station, or close to one.

So I just called him. He says he called it knoodles, and was available at most any guest house. He was all over Germany, but did mention Bavaria.

The Swabian Maultaschen sounds good, but there is no vinegar in it. I see the recipe for Swabian Potato Salad does have vinegar.

And Uwe, I thought you would have the answer right off the top of your head, without having to search. Thanks for the info. I'm going to have bratwurst for lunch.

What better place to ask about food then the Outpost Cafe? A friend of mine spent many years in Gremany. The other day he was going on about this German dish made from square noodles with bacon and vinegar. Sounds like German Potato Salad except with noodles instead of potatoes. He called it kurshtaclevan. I'm guessing his spelling is all wrong, in a half hour of searching I found nothing similar. I hope one of our European friends can shed some light on this noodle dish. Thanks in advance.

Now, that's weird because I told Roman I'd be happy to get a blue one.  Well, it looks like it's *THIS* close, so I'll wait it out.

Yea, and you were on the list a little ahead of me.
