Sounds great. Gotta buy it on vinyl which seems to be shit-expensive.

The Outpost Cafe / Live At...Hull?
« on: September 20, 2010, 01:42:47 AM »
Yes indeed. The gig after the famous Leeds' one gets a release. I would have been happy with just that but of course they have to make it a part of an expensive box. I already have "Live At Leeds" on vinyl and CD (the same deluxe edition as on the forthcoming box) and studioversion of "Heaven & Hell" I have too so that "Summertime Blues" 7" doesn't lure me either.

What colour it is? Pelham Blue or something else? Some say it's green but which one?

Gibson Basses / Andy Hummel's Thunderbird
« on: July 21, 2010, 05:38:44 AM »
The former Big Star bassist Andy Hummel sadly died two days ago. Apparently he was a Thunderbird player also, or at least on Big Star's January 1973 show at Lafayette's Music Room, Mephis, Tennessee. The photo is from the "Keep An Eye On The Sky" boxset.

R.I.P. Andy.

The Bass Zone / Max Webster

Any fans? I discovered them about 14 years ago, a friend made a tape with "Battlescar", "In Context Of The Moon" and "Beyond The Moon". Of course I later discovered they were capable of much more than 'just' playing heavy prog and nowadays I think them as a hard rock's NRBQ if you get my point. :) Of the individual players my fav is Terry Watkinson: a great keyboard player, as underrated as, say, Hugh Banton of VDGG.

Rickenbacker Basses / Roger Glover's three 4001's

I didn't know he had another similarly (hideously, that is) modded 4001 with two slanted Jazz pickups and also a fretless! Also lurking behind him is the Thunderbird hat is somehow modded too. I recall seeing that bass on some Rainbow promo video.

Nazareth's Pete Agnew had the red 4001 in one pic or at least I think it was the same bass (had the Dawk mods) and Glover being Naz' producer at that time it's also very likely.

Is there an 8-saddle bridge that would fit in to a HB-8 (the new model)? It don't have to be a direct replacement.
This is the original bridge:

Other Bass Brands / Tom Petersson's mystery 8-string

I've been wondering about this mysterious 8-string Tom used in the late seventies:

Probably a custom job but who knows? Looks like it has 60's Thunderbird pickups.

The same bass in action:

Don't be scared by the intro, he soon puts the T-bird away...;)

Gibson Basses / '60s T-Bird pickup vital statistics
« on: June 05, 2010, 11:26:56 PM »
Hello everyone! I've been trying to find information about the original Thunderbird pickups. The usual stuff: ohms, wire gauge, magnets etc.

I have two NOS '70s covers and my friend is a pickup maker, you'll might guess the rest!:) Our aim is not to make an exact copy but to get into the ballpark.

Thanks in advance!

PS. The pickups are going to the inverness green NR seen on this thread:
