The Outpost Cafe / Bat Sex Finally Revealed ...

This belongs here, woke bats doing it non-penetratively:

https://www.theguardian.com/science/2023/nov/20/caught-not-quite-in-the-act-church-cameras-reveal-bat-sex-ritual

Maybe they were teenage bats lacking hands-on experience?

The male’s erect penis is enormous and ends with a heart-shaped head
that is seven times wider than the female’s vagina.

The Outpost Cafe / WTF?

Meet Max Hightower:

If I would have gone to school with Max in the early to mid seventies, I would have probably said about him: "Between a boy and a girl, Max is somewhere in the middle." and that would have been that. Whether in a school play he would have played a boy or a girl, I wouldn't have cared either way, not that I was great fan of school plays. There have always been people like Max.

My school days are long past, yet I have to read something like this and my mind just boggles:

https://www.dallasnews.com/news/education/2023/11/08/why-was-a-transgender-texas-teen-removed-from-his-lead-role-in-a-school-musical/?outputType=amp

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/nov/10/trans-teen-oklahoma-role-max-hightower

Mind you, I'm not above making ribald jokes ---> doughnut bumper about the LGBTQ movement and sometimes it gets  - like any activist movement can - plain on my nerves. But this type of a desperate rollback denying what has always existed (and especially in theater and entertainment arts which have always attracted people who weren't all that obsessed with choosing a side) leaves me gaping. It's theater culture-historically inane too: Hell, in Shakespearean times, women were largely not even allowed to act and most women roles in his plays were initially played by men/boys. (That this turned a majority of British men into gays and had the population of the British Isles die out subsequently has not found its way into anthropological records so far.)

Max of course wasn't cast to play a woman, he was to play a male role in the school's performance of the musical 'Oklahoma!' Why that needs to be taken away from him because he is apparently "not male enough" to some people, is beyond me. How bigoted - and scared shitless about your own positioning on the gender scale - can you be?

The Outpost Cafe / Rick is rightly losing it ...

Love him for it. And he's so right. No Allan Holdsworth? Wot?!!! No Yngwie Malmsteen? Not even among the first 250? Andy Summers last at 250? The mind boggles.

The list is here:

https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-lists/best-guitarists-1234814010/aaron-dessner-and-bryce-dessner-1234815287/

Notable absences off the top of my head: Steve Morse (!, the guy who won the "best overall guitarist" slot with Guitar Player five years in a row until they ended his eligibility to have someone new take the top spot), Al Di Meola, Leo Kottke, Tommy Bolin (no Jeff Beck turned fusion without his work on Billy Cobham's Spectrum), Gary Moore, Ted Nugent (we're not judging political or sociological acumen) ... the list of the blatantly ignored is endless ... And if you say this isn't just for technically astute lead guitarists - which is fine in my book (I don't mind Joan Jett being listed, she became a role model for many female players) -, then where the hell is Bob Marley?

Never noticed that album cover before. Is that a steel guitar or are you supposed to play it via fretting from above, double-bass high register access style?

... is a tutorial by Joey, the one man who plays with even more distortion than some members here (not giving away names, I might catch some thunder!), assless chaps are gratuity of course ...

Wait for it, Joey and Michael playing with themselves and each other! Death to false (or slow) major scales!

I now feel better about playing slow again.

… it’s perhaps time to stop.

https://www.theguardian.com/music/2023/sep/12/aerosmith-steven-tyler-bleeding-vocal-cords-postpones-concerts

Tyler was and is a great singer and front man and always gave his all live, but if this isn’t a sign of alarm I don’t know what is.

No joke!

Admittedly, I have a soft spot for Nicolas Cage AND for Dracula, but this quirky little movie was such a hoot I cannot fathom why it box office bombed ...

It's lovingly written (with good knowledge of the source material), paced and performed. Even the awkward love story is cute. Lots of slapstick gore, you have to have a stomach for that.

"Members of the Taliban look on after setting fire to a pile of musical instruments and equipment"

There's many worse pics from Afghanistan and it's just "stuff" they're burning, but it's emblematic for a regime hell-bent to return to an age prior to enlightenment.

And of course they all have cell phones so they can convene for their bonfires.

No one put her up here up to now, but she deserves her place. Troubled, a drama queen, probably a handful to be with, she once said about herself that she had lived her life "like a public car crash", but what a voice!

And all melisma-free; Da-yay-yay-yave will appro-hoo-hoo-hoove.

... got his final wings I guess.

That shyly mumbled "Thank you ..." at the end of the song that instilled fear in him performing it live is touching.
