I'm not disagreeing, but what is it about the neck joint specifically that make's y'all think that?  I looked at the pics, the one from the top right does look like it has some extra glue or filler in there, but the one from the left looks like that might have been a trick of the light on the body's roundover, because it looks really well done in that one.

Me neither but I think I like it.  Looks like a good functional design.

It's got a nice Schaller 460 bridge on it at least.  Great bridges, just can't always go as low as others; a non-issue on archtops or any instrument with a significant neck set angle, but on a flat top it can be limiting.  The issue is, in addition to the girth of the thing itself, mostly the tailpiece's downward angle; removing that (it slides right out of a slot) and then using a trapeze would allow one to lower it more, but what I did on my EB3 is to just slide the tailpiece out of the slot a little bit so as to make the angle not quite so drastic - this allowed me to lower the bridge just enough for my liking.  The seller provided no pics of the action nor mention so beware.

I'm not a fan of Barts or figured maple but otherwise it's a pretty nice bass.

i love Geezer, but wouldn't touch EMG's with a 10 foot pole

That would be my normal response as well - something different about these?

Same here, but these are sounding pretty good to me in th the demo vid.  Nice and growly.  ...I just have no use for a P pup... or a J.

What makes it completely lame and tasteless is how the pranker hangs around to point it out to all passers by like some huge thing - most people didn't really care without his goading.

I heard that phrase first in that song here ... and they say rock music doesn't educate you ...

Interesting bass - a ho of some sort?  Looks like a Gibson inspired headstock with a Gretch doublecut shaped body (like Malcom Young's Jet).

Good shots of it at 1:04 and 1:27-1:55ish.

Les' pups relisted again.  Not sure why relisted this time as they sold (for near what the seller asked as a BIN the first time) when he started the bid at $200-something the second time, but now back with a 3k BIN.

Y'all are both right - that white Cassidy needs a Triumph-style pup - black with nice large chrome mounting rings  :P

... though I dig the Falcon idea too (the only instance where I like Gold hardware).

There are so many people interested in the low impedance pickups it would be good to post some additional information about them.  How would I go about getting xrays of the ones I have?  I have been asked to do it but I don't have a clue about how or where to make that happen.  Quite sure my health insurance wouldn't cover the xrays to be certain none of these pickups had a broken leg.  Can anyone offer a good suggestion?

Make friends with a medical researcher.

I work in a hospital (IT), but don't know anybody from either research or radiology well enough.

I am also not sure if there is much mystery left to the internals of these things: blade polepeice stacked humbucker with 3 taps in the coil. ... but I'd still be interested to see the guts for real in case of surprises/funny things - as long as a functional one doesn't have to be sacrificed in the bargain.

Bass Amps & Effects / Re: Marshall Bass 4x12

The first 4x15s were stamped frame Celestions, yeah,  but the greenback pictured above is a cast frame Celestion from a Marshal zig zag type 4x15 (1982 apparently - later than I would have guessed... they could be replacements then I suppose).  The Goodmans likewise were cast frame (though they look like stamped frame, shapewise, they are so thick I just figured they had to be cast) - not sure which was used first but the Goodmans look older design-wise (of the cast frame types).

It's not irrelevant.  People talk about the 'Jamerson tone' and I was showing that it is not that consistant, static thing (this seems obvious maybe, but people often forget about that); which record/era's sound one associates with that architype of JJ can vary.

They switched it up a lot it seems. Smooth cone with a metal vented dustcap isn't exactly a distinctive look - lots of manufacturers did that, though yeah, that front pic is probs not a Celestion now that I look at it closer (I searched for pics and that came up along with that greenback 15, so I assumed; my bad).

The Gauss 15s had supper heavy cast frames didn't they - later than the Celestion and Goodmans phases?  Certainly look it.  Is yours the pair above a pair 4x15 or the zig zag tall kind?
