The Outpost Cafe / Where men are men and sheep are nervous
« on: April 19, 2010, 06:03:33 PM »
And now they're shearing themselves (the sheep, not the men  :) )

The farmers claim they developed the breed, but this must be the work of Harold the Clever Sheep

The Outpost Cafe / A Laurel and Hardy moment

Handyman props his ladder against a branch he's sawing off, falls and breaks his foot and then sues his employer, who is also fined £2,000. It's always Somebody Else's Fault.  :-\

Bungling handyman

Howard Johnson would extend him a laurel and a hardy handshake.  ;)

Gibson Basses / Tulsa Time

I was in the mood to listen to some Don Williams and look what I found. I can't remember seeing an RD in a country band before.

Yeah, I know, simple bass line but it's not his fault that it's a two chord song.

Foreplay, gunplay, what's the difference?   :o ???

Comment from a friend of mine: "sometimes during foreplay my gun goes off. Never killed anybody... he must have a bigger gun.'

When cyber acronyms meet safety warnings: Drowning in Laughter

A serious mistake in this day and age, but I have to admit, I lol'ed at it.

The Outpost Cafe / Magnets and moral judgment
« on: April 01, 2010, 07:42:18 PM »
A study from M.I.T. claims that moral judgments can be altered by magnets.

Right away I thought about how much time we spend near speaker magnets and magnetic pickups. It could explain a lot.  ;)

At least it's an excuse to keep your lead guitarist away from Marshall stacks. "It's for your own good!"

The Outpost Cafe / NUMMI shuts down

The final day of NUMMI

It's been more than 25 years since it was the original GM plant, and that was a different era. Still, this struck me:

Quote
Workers said the quality of the vehicles didn't wane, even during the final days of production.

That was in sharp contrast to the last day or two of the former GM plant in Fremont, said Larry Silberman, a Hayward resident who worked for 25 years at NUMMI and 25 years at its predecessor, the GM factory. Silberman was there on the final day for each of the two factories.

"When General Motors closed the plant, the workers trashed the last cars," Silberman said. "Here at NUMMI, we kept the quality high to the end."

Ideal for the "Street Pharmacist" and other suitably attired twats.

He's a real eBay auto seller, this must have brought him some attention.

The Bass Zone / New Zoom H1
« on: March 30, 2010, 08:53:23 AM »
Not exactly a bass-only topic but we don't have a recording gear section.

new Zoom H1 introduced at Musikmesse

Lists for  €119 including VAT and can apparently be ordered for €99. That's about one-third less than the H2. Sounds like a bargain to me.

Other Bass Brands / Identify the bass
« on: March 29, 2010, 02:33:46 PM »
Two clips from late 1964 - early 1965 with a young Johnny Paycheck on bass with George Jones' band.

I can't remember seeing any Japanese basses this early. Could it be a European brand? Body sort of reminds me of an Egmond but not the headstock.

It's bad enough that Ford is selling Volvo to a Chinese carmaker, but this is just too much:

Swedish prisoner warned over flatulence protests

I'm thankful that there are no serious problems like this in American prisons.  :-X

Some of you may be interested in this, it was posted at another forum: it's an article about lacquer that appears in the April 2010 issue of Popular Woodworking. It's written by Bob Flexner (author of Understanding Wood Finishing).
