...less popular...

Yeah I can see that.
I think it is part of what it makes it attractive to me.
Just don't want to be seen with the zillionth J or P type bass

Haha good one Ilan!

I just like the shape and configuration of the Red Special Bass.
Don't mind if it's a derivate of a guitar by a (great) famous player.

What makes you think those are Artecs?

The bridge pickup looks like a Burns pickup.
The neck pickup might be an Artec.
Nothing wrong with those anyway.

The best luck I have with recording bass is to put the player in the room with his amp for a few

minutes to get his sound. Then I mic his amp...put him in an iso closet, and mic his strings with a

condenser mic to get the acoustic attack. Putt the mic on the strings, right at the pickup end of the

fretboard. Blend a LITTLE of this in with the direct / cabinet sound.

I do believe that is what he said Bret

Micing the strings? You gotta be kidding.
In a loud rock band you really don't hear the strings ring in the room. No matter how good your ears are. Recording them and adding them to the mix seems silly to me.

Adding noise does not make you a better bass player. Good bass playing does.
And yes good bass players can sound pretty noisy when soloed.
But I don't believe a mediocre bass player's recording will improve when you add any noise.

I love the sound of my Greco Tbird too. And I agree about the neck too...
In comparison to the narrower Gibson neck it makes the Greco a bit more tiresome to play.

Nice. Whats different from the proto, beside the bridge?

Yes bridge. And black tuners.
But what bugs me most is the big plastic pot knobs.
I think the two metal knobs plus toggle switch look much sexier.

But it's an easy fix.
