Gibson Basses / Poll: Non Reverse Thunderbird colors
« on: January 12, 2013, 01:12:54 AM »
I am going to have a bunch of BaCHbirds refinished.
But I can't decide which colors to use.
I looked up the Gibson custom color chart at Jules' website.

What are your favorites? You can choose three options.

I think my choice would be Pelham Blue, Inverness Green and Silver Mist. (although I have never seen Silver Mist on a NR Tbird...)

The Bass Zone / Marcus Miller in tour bus accident. Drives dies
« on: November 25, 2012, 12:03:52 PM »
In the the middle of their European tour Marcus Miller and band were in a severe traffic accident with their tourbus in Switzerland. Their bus driver didn't survive the accident... some of the band members were taken to a hospital.

I don't know any more details yet.

The Outpost Cafe / Led Zeppelin DVD
« on: November 20, 2012, 12:27:38 PM »
As much as I love Led Zeppelin studio albums I've always found them very sloppy at live recordings that I've heard/seen.

Now, five year after the O2 concert they're finally releasing the DVD of that reunion gig.

They've doctored it to death...

And still they sound sloppy!   :o

The timing is way off more than once. Page and Jones don't seem to have the main riff down pat.
Plant is fighting his way through the song.
This YouTube video is supposed to be a teaser for the DVD. But all it did was convince me I don't need to buy the DVD.
Thank you.

Okay Uwe, you can finish it off now.  ;)

Other Bass Brands / Telecaster Basses by BaCH
« on: November 04, 2012, 08:43:07 AM »
Yesterday I had three BaCH Telecaster bass guitars in the house.

Two Honey Burst Telecasters

And one Creme Telecaster

I made a quick video to give you an impression of the sound.
It was a bit of a rush job because the bass was going to be picked up in ten minutes :-)

These brave little basses kick ass!

Other Bass Brands / Gould Non Reverse Thunderbird
« on: October 31, 2012, 05:43:21 AM »
Last weekend a nice British gentleman living in Germany came to my place to check out my BaCHbird and to order one for himself.

He brought along another bass guitar that he owns.
A Gould Stormbird.

A take on the Non Reverse Thunderbird.
The pickguard is obviously different.
But if you take a closer look, you'll see the neck isn't set as deep into the body as with the original NR Tbirds or BaCHbirds. How's that for upper fret access! ;)
And with the neck more forward, the bridge isn't as close to the edge. Nice bridge by the way. Individual saddle height adjustment.
The bass looks very nicely done. One piece body with nice grain. The neck is a little bit chunky. Much like the Epi JCS.
Of course the bass suffer a bit from neck dive, but is stays horizontal at a certain point.
Pickups look and sound quite similar to the Artecs on a BaCHbird.

Anyone ever seen these?

The Outpost Cafe / My band in 1999
« on: August 14, 2012, 03:30:00 AM »
Tomorrow we have a birthday party from a friend of ours who's turning 60.
He was our roadie and bus driver back in the day when we toured with Bittermoon.

Bittermoon split up in early 2000 shortly after we released the album One Good Eye (in 1999)
Just for old times sake we're getting back together to jam a couple of songs from that album.
Haven't heard that stuf in ages. Sort of forgot that we could kick ass (if we wanted to)

Saw this over at Jules'

Not bad!!

Looks like Gibson finally managed to design new pickups (for) themselves. No TB+ in disguise (that would have been very inappropriate), no J-bass single single coils (like the RD reissue).
