Gibson Basses / Greg Lake's Ripper
« on: January 27, 2016, 07:22:58 PM »
If you look you can find a few photos and maybe a clip with Greg Lake and his Ripper. Always wondered about it because it's black with a maple fretboard.

Well, while looking around I found this press release photo of Lake with a Ripper, but it's a natural finish. I guess this gives some new insight into what I thought may have been a custom bass or modified later. Of course, it's possible these are two different basses. Anyway, it's interesting to say the least.

Stumbled across this by accident. Though a friend has an RD guitar this is the first time I've ever seen an RD guitar actually being played.

The Outpost Cafe / RIP Bob Burns

I just can't get over how time has been so unkind to members of Lynyrd Skynyrd. All of them should have lived to be old men.

So there's a shop on eBay which sells TRCs for Thunderbirds. Measured the distance between the two screw holes (those nearest the nut) and ordered one.

The guy wants the year of my Tbird and the serial number. I told him it was a '66-'69 Nonreverse but didn't mention a serial number (which I'm not sure has one until all the paint is stripped off).

He asked again for the serial number.

What possible difference does it make what the serial number is and why would he want it?

Gibson Basses / Modern T-bird trc, will they fit an NR?
« on: February 15, 2015, 06:32:57 AM »
I think I read on here somewhere that modern T-bird TRCs will fit an original NR. Did I misread or is that still correct?
Thanks!

Gibson Basses / '66 Thunderbird pickup needs to be rewound: advice?
« on: February 12, 2015, 06:55:26 PM »
I sent my '66-'69 NR II pickup to Steve at Thunderbucker Ranch. He asked how I wanted it wound, to his '66 specs or hotter.

Not sure which one I should go for. What's your experience with his choices? Favorites?

A guy on the Sunn forum made a few shirts so I had to have one. He redrew it from the original Sunn design. Looks pretty good!

So, we saw "Fury" over the weekend and even the wife liked it.
Afterwards I went to reading up on Shermans and Tigers and stumbled upon the awesome Tiger Training manual, authorized and approved by Heinz Guderian. Called the "Tigerfibel" it contains humor, prose, cartoons and a nude woman named Elvira.
It was apparently so popular that a similar manual was written for the Panther.

Check this out! And be sure to flip through all the pages.

Gibson Basses / Advice on Gibson IV bass
« on: October 25, 2014, 05:24:36 AM »
This thing popped up on FleaBay. I've always liked the look of natural IVs but this one was damaged in shipment and the guy is reselling it. I don't think the damage looks too bad and seems repairable.
Thoughts?
Thanks!
