Guitars Etc. / Oops... impulse purchase... silly price...
« on: April 02, 2016, 12:58:53 PM »
Bought a Squier Tele for £60, which is circa 1/3 UK retail, from a charity shop... needs a clean, a new set of strings, and a top for the pup selector... found one minor dent... that's it... perfectly set-up... made no sense to see this at this price nor where it was... had the same sort of luck with my black Jazz, which I picked up for £68 five or six years back...

The Great Adventure begins...

To explore strange new worlds... (tickets bought... fly up in the next few days)
To seek out new life... (er... a rental whilst we source a new home)
These are the voyages of the Starship Highlander, Captain Kenny in command (you must be joking!), with wife, daughter, fourteen fish, and a small white fluffy alien that emanates an aura of cuteness...

Coming soon to a small screen near you...

Exchanged contracts yesterday afternoon and we leave our home of 23.5 years on 16th September and should be over the border on the 18th... dropped the (work) bombshell last night and it works out I have enough leave accrued to only have to work 6 days in the next four weeks... oops... my boss might react, but a fait-accompl is a fait-accomplii ...

In a time-honoured tradition, and quoting an old work colleague, verbatim... What's he going to do... sack me...? ;)

Anyway, I hadn't been into our local town for about a month or so and we like looking in the charity shops for a wide variety of items, so, when we walked into one of our regulars what should I spot but a GK Backline 115, priced rather reasonably at £80/$125...
Somewhat out of place, and no instrument to test the beastie so er... couldn't resist...

Tried out with the PC (Mud mode) and the fretless Jazz and very pleased with the results... heavy ol' son-of-a-Gallien though... :o

Surprisingly wide range of sounds and the beastie can certainly handle full Mud, with overdrive, and at volume...! :vader:

Whilst some members of the 'post have had the golden-opportunity to meet up I've been wandering around in North Wales as part of a trip celebrating my daughter's 21st birthday. I also visited a few ancient churches as part of an art project I'm working on...
I don't have much time this morning as I'm off to an RAF reunion for a couple of days but will post this to give you an understanding of what I was getting up to...

This is a churchyard in North Wales we visited on the way home yesterday and can anyone guess the age of this yew tree...? Let me give you a clue... it's not in the hundreds...

Ian Gillan is appearing today - in about an hours time - and an attempt to play Smoke On The Water live with circa 4,000 musicians... totally nuts...
