Clearly, for this type of music Part 2 is not mandatory.

Yeah, I totally get that it's the way they started out using what they had. It was just unexpected and I have to say a treat to watch.
Being a player, you hear the licks and know what you should be seeing. it's just fascinating to watch it happen in "reverse" so to speak.

It reminded me of an experiment done at some university where they took students and had them wear glasses that flipped what they saw 180 degrees. It took very little time for the brain to acclimate and they were not just fully functioning but riding bikes etc. (I don't think they let them drive though...).

The point - so what's normal anyway? ???

So I'm channel surfing and I hit on my local Public Access channel which was listing Latin Jazz Festival.

This amounted to a Latin Jazz band in the TV studio riffing through a bunch of tunes. They weren't kids, clearly accomplished players.
Sax, trap drummer, conga player with an array of congas, keys and bass guitar.

They were pretty good, but here's what really grabbed me. Bass player was a lefty with a lefty 5 string Carvin.

But it was strung as an upside down righty!!!! B string at the bottom and the G on top. :o This wasn't like just looking in the mirror - it was like looking in the mirror while standing on your head! He played seamlessly fingerstyle and had even developed a method of slap/pop. He used his middle finger to tap the string over the neck (a la Entwistle's typewriter style) and then pop the G with his thumb. He was pretty darn good at it too, and quick. I don't slap myself so any display that's musical (not just chops heavy) gets my attention. He was working some nice licks.

It's pretty amazing how adaptable one can get with some focus and application.  I was thoroughly impressed.

The Embassy's are showing up over at TB to rave reviews. Minor things i.e. loose pots easily corrected but overall fit and finish appear to be tip-top and the pickups are all the rage.

My wife mentioned that she wants to see it, should we see the original film first (I can't remember anything from it, 30+ years)?

Definitely.I'd recommend watching it twice - there are a lot of little things sprinkled throughout that a second viewing will highlight.

Now that's exactly the kind of tactile response I'm looking for.

As well as a phone.... ;)

It is episodes like this that make me even happier to be unconnected to all this technology.

I'm still looking for a rotary flip phone..... ???

You got me there!  :o  :-X

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

Considering the movie was made in 1982, there are a boatload of 25 year old movie goers that were born the same year. Their expectations are high out of the gate, and they certainly don't have the time or the inclination to go back and get grounded with the first one.

Example: My wife is a fan of all that reality nonsense on Bravo. There is one show she watches where they have a 20 year old daughter. The family goes to Italy on vacation and rents a gorgeous villa with vaulted hand painted ceilings, absolutely breathtaking. The father is describing the art work, saying you don't see this kind of magnificent detail anymore.

She says, Who painted it?

He stutters a second then says, just for effect, Michaelangelo!

She says, C'mon Dad! You can't fool me - he's one of the Ninja Turtles....you took me to see that movie!

I have nothing to add.

I usually find projects like this to be entertaining. Here are a bunch of badasses that have all made their bones, just getting together and having some fun. Nothing to prove, no "focused slickness", just being themselves. Is it all brilliant? No. Then again, my expectations are lower. There are still enough moments that work for me.

I've found music that was quite listenable with vocals that were much less appealing (exception being Rush).

I like it.

They've been showing the original (Director's cut) repeatedly on TV and I never get tired of watching it. In the days of VHS I only ever actually bought a handful of movies - this was one.

Glad to hear it was good. I am looking forward to seeing this for sure.

Clearly the box office results are a reflection of the new generation not getting the same charge out of it. The impact of the original is lost on them so they don't get a lot of what's happening. I understand there are many references to the first one throughout.

Just a head's up. A guy over at TB said Sweetwater called him yesterday and said his Embassy was on the truck.

All of you that ordered should be getting your goodies soon!

Alien as the concept may be in English-speaking countries, knowledge of a second language does have its benefits.  :-X

Indeed. The handful of words I retained have proven invaluable for basic crosswords....
