Gibson Basses / Re: 2018 Gibson basses. New basses, new topic :)

WoW!! Now THAT is gorgeous!!!! And I'm sure all that bling was a goodly pile of shekels as well, though clearly well spent.

For a while I had a 77 RD Artist (mustard/ketchup finish) in great condition. Other than its usual detractions (ungainly and heavy) I thought it was fairly easy to play and it sounded wonderful as long as I kept it passive. Quite honestly I had no use at all for any of the Moog Magic. If I could get that passive sound into a more streamlined shape I'd still have it. I had to try it out though, just to see what it was all about. A unique instrument, without a doubt.

Gibson Basses / Re: USA TBird Pickups on Reverb

If I had any thoughts about another build in the near future I would've jumped them myself. I always thought my 2000 TBird sounded great and was very versatile.
If I ever go for a TBird driven bass down the line I'll grab one of the current chromed sets (i.e. Lull).

These don't come around often - somebody should jump them and stash 'em in their parts bin for a future project.

P.S. I am not affiliated with the seller in any way.

Pinkie shortly before takeoff to San Clemente, CA.

That is absolutely killer. :toast:

That looks sharp! All this talk of Bi-Sonics made me dig out my 60's Coronado IV sporting 2 of them.

I forget how good these pickups sound.

Gibson Basses / Re: Oops... I did it again. 2016 ES Les Paul Bass

Mojohobo- I've always wondered about that - never had a bass w/ 2 tone controls. How do you like to use them?

I really like having a V-T for each pickup. Besides my LP I have several stack knob J basses, one of which my tech wired as a stack knob with a master volume that pulls up for series.

I like to use the neck pickup V-T dimed, bridge rolled off slightly with tone at around 50%, depending on strings.

Looks like our favorite knucklehead got the boot from Fox - forever!!!

http://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/fox-news-bans-kiss-frontman-gene-simmons-for-life/ar-BBF47Tj?li=BBnb4R7

According to a knowledgeable Fox News source, Simmons showed up on the 14th floor to do a book-plugging interview with FoxNews.com’s entertainment section, but instead barged in on a staff meeting uninvited.

“Hey chicks, sue me!” he shouted, and then pulled open his red velvet shirt to reveal his chest and belly, according to the source. Then he starting telling Michael Jackson pedophilia jokes, and then bopped two employees on the head with his book, making derisive comments about their comparative intelligence according to the sound their heads made when struck.

“It was pretty severe,” the source said.

But like they say, there's no such thing as bad press.. :rimshot:

My latest P build has an 2014 AVRI '63 P body and the color is Seminole Red. Looks pretty close to Fiesta, but who knows...

Holy Moly!!!! Bass Guess = Vantage? Westone?

I wouldn't think you could do that to a 3 point without actually breaking it. That was a very determined effort indeed (vs plugging the holes and re-drilling).

That looks like the work of a blacksmith....

For me it isn't whether I'm behind or on-top-of or pushing it. Being locked into the drummer is the key. My drummer of nearly 40 years is a rock and roll guy all the way, but he's quite capable of playing most genres. Typically though he's usually just a bit behind. When we're synced up it never sounds like it's dragging or too slow. In those instances when I think it might be a little too behind, I hear recordings and it sounds rock solid, even as I distinctly remember thinking it not being quite so at the time.

Whatever part of the rhythmic structure you're in, being synchronized is what makes it work. You don't want to get too far away in either direction while maintaining a groove.

Exactly my point. It has become so de rigeur that when it doesn't happen it stands out. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was a conscious decision on her part.

Having said that, she's probably a slap monster and is saving it for a later album.

Uwe, that just illustrates just how pervasive that has become. You clearly have a some real breadth of familiarity with many genres and styles, but it seems to be more common than not.

I don't slap, and I don't feel like there's a gaping hole in what and how I play. Upon occasion people have come to me after a show and expressed a positive response to what I played, but never once has someone said, Gee that was pretty good but you should really slap more....

I admire the chops it takes to be a good slapper, meaning not just flurries of notes for the sake of it (which seems to be the dominant form of display) but inserted in a musical way that enhances the song. Lawdy, sometimes I walk into GC or Sam Ash and it's like walking into note blizzard. I often stop and wonder, can that person cut a groove into Mustang Sally, or James Brown?

I dig her because she doesn't need to slap. Like Jeff Berlin. I couldn't carry either of their lunches in any case, but I'm okay with not having that particular skill set. I manage with what I got and we still rock. ;)
