The Bass Zone / DiMarzio X2N for 12 string bass?
« on: September 08, 2010, 03:25:59 PM »
OK, I know there probably aren't a lot of people that have A/B-ed pickups on 12 string basses....  ;D But I just bought a Hamer B12S and I need to get rid of the EMGs. My first thought is to put Gibson TB+ pups on it, but I started thinking about the old Hamers with DiMarzios. Does anybody have any insight to one versus the other on ANY kind of bass?

I have a gig with a CCR tribute band coming up, and I was just curious as to what kind of bass Stu cook used.

Fender Basses / Geddy Lee serial # decode....
« on: July 24, 2010, 01:30:41 PM »
I just scored a used GL Jazz Bass on ebay and I'm trying to figure out what year it is. Srial # S 03 XXXX. The Fender website has a page for Japanese instruments showing S + six digits as being 1994-95. But there is a separate short list at the bottom of the page for "Crafted in Japan" which this bass is. That list stops at R + five digits. ??? When did they introduce these basses?

Bass Amps & Effects / octave pedals - who likes what?

I'm thinking of buying an octave pedal. Had a Boss Octaver years ago. It wasn't bad. Wondering what you guys might suggest?

Other Bass Brands / BaCH TH-1 + Guitar Rig 4 = crunchy goodness!
« on: June 14, 2010, 09:14:16 PM »
Man, I continue to be amazed at the sounds I'm getting with my Guitar Rig 4 plug-in. I'm a life long "gotta mic a tube amp" guy, but every time I fire this program up, I realize I don't need the amp for recording. This thing, with the Ampeg setting - which is laid out just like an SVT II/III/SVP - sounds so close to my actual amp, it is uncanny. Best direct bass tone I've ever achieved. I did a little audio clip to share. TH-1 through a Radial J48 DI into my Digi 003 control surface/interface. Ran a Waves CLA76 compressor plug-in both on the way in, and out. The only EQ is the "amp" settings on GR4. I posted it on http://www.myspace.com/tomheslin. Scroll all the way down to "TEST - TH-1-Guitar Rig 4".

Fender Basses / "Mustang" + Mustang
« on: June 04, 2010, 11:48:22 AM »
So my friend just got her Musicmaster-turned-Mustang back from getting re-finished. Turned out cool! It's got a Duncan '51 P style pickup and a Badass bridge. I strung it up with TI jazz flats, tweaked the truss rod, and intonated it. Sounds great! Tons of lows, and planety of everything else through my '74 SVT. I had to take advantage of the photo op with my car. :)

He's really dead this time. Bummer. I'm glad I got to see them last October and meet him briefly after the show.

Bass Amps & Effects / Floor monitor/wedge style bass bottoms?
« on: March 31, 2010, 10:11:32 AM »
I know SWR used to make a 210 in this style. Don't remember the model number. Anybody know of any others? I'm thinking of building one, but wanted to see if there is something that already exists. ?????

The Outpost Cafe / Double kick pedals must be destroyed!
« on: November 27, 2009, 09:21:17 AM »
There seems to be a problem among drummers out there. Everything's going fine, and then, all of a sudden, mid-groove.... here comes a totally unnecessary double kick fill! Why? I think if they're going to subject us to tasteless, gratuitous fills, they should at least be required to lug the other big drum with them! Might make them think twice. LOL! End of rant.....
