The Outpost Cafe / Is it a bass?

Is this some kind of bass...or 3/4 of one?

Falls into the category of Facebook oddities.....

The Outpost Cafe / The greatest ski run I have ever seen
« on: August 23, 2023, 11:39:56 AM »
I still remember this 1976 run - Franz Klammer of Austria living right on the edge.  I've never seen another downhiller come so close to disaster so many times and win.

The Outpost Cafe / Unusual industrial tool

Never seen one of these before. Glad I didnt!

The purpose is clear and the graphic helps the operator center up the subject.  However, the attachments look kinda painful.

The Outpost Cafe / Happy 4th to one and all!
« on: July 04, 2023, 11:49:43 AM »
Big thunderstorms forecast today right about fireworks time, but it's a great day to enjoy with family or friends.

Right now I'm carrying out one of my traditions - watching the James Cagney classic "Yankee Doodle Dandy". I do this every 4th, and it gives me a great feeling both to revisit the history and to enjoy Cagney's performance.

Have a great one!

The Outpost Cafe / Last week in Puerto Vallarta
« on: February 01, 2023, 11:11:04 AM »
Just got back from a week in Puerto Vallarta.  It was 73-80 (F) all week, and the water was 77 degrees.

Knowing that we needed to make the week memorable, we went scuba diving three times, with this photo as a reminder:

Friday night my wife and I will see Grand Funk Railroad in Greeley, CO.  Looking forward to some stomping music.  Didn't expect them to come through here.

I'll post a report afterward.  8)

Today I wish all of you a great Thanksgiving.  Today we can feel great about practicing - or not practicing - visiting with friends or family - or simply doing what we need to do, hopefully with a smile.

Be well and have a great day.  :toast:

The Outpost Cafe / Christmas music gotcha....
« on: November 05, 2022, 10:49:08 AM »
My band has a mid-December gig and it's the first I've played with them in December.  My walking bass skills aren't that good, and I ran into a gotcha that I'm still working on.  You would think that most of the familiar Christmas tunes aren't tricky, but I found a surprise.

The old chestnut Rocking Around the Christmas Tree has a 16-measure "walking bass solo" and the key is G#, which is an unusual key for this band. That combination surprised me and has me on the defensive.  It will probably end up as a mix of one and two measure walks up and down but I'm working to extend them to something that
isn't too repetitive.

I hadn't played that tune before and didn't expect to run into a long bass solo, so I'm a bit behind on this one.  I have a practice with the band tomorrow and I'll need more work after that.

Here's one sample on YouTube:

The Outpost Cafe / Something different today: the Cussler Museum
« on: September 01, 2022, 06:42:40 AM »
One of my car guy neighbors and a couple of friends are going to the Cussler Museum today.  It's open limited hours and only May-October.  It's adventure author Clive Cussler's collection of 100+ rare automobiles, and it's about 60 miles from me.  Cussler passed in 2020 but the museum continues.

Here's the website:  https://www.cusslermuseum.com/

Today's featured car: 1948 Packard Custom 8 convertible.  BTW, this photo was taken at the foothills of the Rockies. The hills you see behind the Packard are actually the first step from the Great Plains into the Rocky Mountains, and they run all along the Front Range in Colorado.

Gibson Basses / A peachy SG guitar

I think the color looks pretty good.  Forgive me for mentioning a six-stringer, but I was torn between the SG thread and the Guitars forum...

The Outpost Cafe / Trouble in Texas, in the news again
« on: August 03, 2022, 08:49:51 AM »
This is the most PERFECT setup for a limited TV series that I've ever read!

https://news.yahoo.com/big-trouble-little-loving-county-115932346.html

•   It’s in very, very, rural Texas (always a perfect setting for evocative drama)
•   Cattle theft is included
•   A County Judge arrested for cattle theft
•   Arrests made at a jury call
•   Family entanglements, including family insider info sharing
•   A Special Ranger with the TSCRA is involved (Texas & SW Cattle Raisers Association) and a trick of his led to the Judge’s arrest
•   People who live outside the county voting in elections, sometimes more people voting than residents in the county!

After having lived in Texas for 13 years, I may find this more amusing and interesting than others, but this appears to be absolutely PERFECT for a broadcast or cable series.

What do you think??
