Yet another example of people who believe they are right so strongly that those who disagree can die. It's one of the worst aspects of religion since societies began. The scary thing about this is that I'll bet he would claim to be a Christian (capital C.)

It's an audience pleaser and a sweet, simple bass line. One of my favorites to play.

That's a good point, though, about the role country music (real country music) has played in the development of rock.  Bob Dylan had something to say in a speech somewhere.  I wrote it down I thought it was so important and here it is.

'The other half of rock 'n roll has got to be hillbilly.  And that's a derogatory term, but it ought not be.  That's a term that includes the Delmore Bros, Stanley Bros, Roscoe Holcomb, Gid Turner and the Skillet Lickers--groups like that.  Moonshine gone berserk.  Fast cars on dirt roads.  That's the kind of combination that makes up rock 'n roll, and it can't be cooked up in a science laboratory or studio."

The Dylan quote says it...where did Elvis, Bill Haley, Ritchie Valens and others who helped move rock & roll mainstream come from? Their backgrounds included gospel, folk music, "hillbilly" music, etc. Add a smidge of blues, mix well, out comes rock & roll, which begat rock.

I think Burton Cummings has one of the more distinctive voices in music.  As it happens, I once worked at a radio station in Idaho where his cousin Gary was the program director.

I think the news of his death landed with a thud. No outpourings of anything except re-caps of his murder trial and later criminal conviction for the Las Vegas inciudent.

The Battle Over Classic Rock Band the Guess Who Just Went Nuclear

Very interesting - we just got tickets to a concert series in Fort Collins this summer, and the band Guess Who is one of the concerts.

Seriously, with its catchy, uplifting, yet minimalist hook it is very American in a good way. You guys excel at joyful music.

Thank a fella named J.P. Sousa. One of the most brilliant march composers in history. Practically every march he ever wrote is an earworm. Marches may be out of favor as popular music, but every 4th you will find large crowds savoring every note, and his marches play continually with fireworks displays.

Respect for the Frogman.  He was one of the old guard.

I watched some Reaction videos on YouTube. Pretty interesting to see how females responded to the Righteous Brothers Unchained Melody and Sound and Inspiration - they all melted.  Those boys did it right; one rapper could not believe they were white!

The Moody Blues got great reactions too.

It was interesting to see rappers and younger people react to the Doors...and the difference between tunes like Light My Fire and darker stuff like L.A. Woman with the growled "Mr. Mojo Rising"...which was an angram from Jim Morrison's name.

Kinda fun. But it was good to see that the greats consistently come across as great.

I was tempted to start a channel with reactions of an old white guy to rap and hip hop. But nobody would be interested.
