I notice the nut is slim too; on my 'regular' grabber the nut is full size.

I like Man, but underrated? Seems like their following rates them pretty high up there, and I doubt if they ever aimed for commercial success.

They had a good sound, with Micky on the SG and Deke on the tele. I'm not sure if Id' rush to see them play though, Micky passed away years ago and Deke has been out of the band for the last 15 years or so. Although they are still playing as Man, it would be like seeing AC/DC without Malcolm, Brian and Angus...

I've never calculated it through, but the valuable models have meanwhile probably over-compensated the money I wasted on the Silly Purple Clown Bass and stuff! Goes to show that you should never collect with resale value in mind, all good things come to those who wait.

I had to read this twice, first time I read it i thought yoy regretted buying silly Purple stuff! The Clown bass was before my time here, but I think I remember now...  you have posted pics of it at some point recently in another thread. That was the 'bullet bass', right?

That is probably correct; the 6071, made from '68 to '72 with on pickup and mahogany red finish (gruhn). Not a lot of vintage Gretsch basses to confuse them with, but then again it might be a reissue of some kind - and them I have not the brains to keep track of!

That would be a nice thread on it's own; pictures of muddified basses. Mudbucker equipped Gibson basses may not have a broad appeal, but the mud spice seem to have pleased more than just a few musical taste buds over the years. Maybe Gibson would be better off not making bass guitars, they could offer a mudbucker/router template kit and make thousands :)

Lots of fiddly white wire

If it's the same wire they use on the Squier series, get rid of it! I am aware that many Squier owners are modding their guitars into insanity, but given the number of Squiers I repaired the electronics are really bad. The pots are one thing, but those 'fiddly' wires (as well as the chinese selector switches) is the main problem.

I think they are made of magnet wire coated with correction fluid

Who knows, maybe they have found them on a sale and they are using them on everything they produce! :P

Unfortunately this is likely to be true..

Gibson Basses / Re: EB3 on eBay - is that a good price?
« on: September 22, 2016, 10:51:51 PM »
Nice and decent. I'd go for it, were it not for the thin neck. Guess I can look long for these prices when shopping for pre '66 gibsons.

Funny though, there is an 'equinox' logo on that case. Equinox was a quite big metal band here in Norway in the 90's - I think their records did well all over europe. The drummer lived right across the street from me. I think some of the members were from Sweden too.

Probably not them, but I just got reminded of them by seeing it, had forgotten all about them.
