Humbucker? Wooliest of all time? Not exactly historically correct.

IIRC, Stanley was playing a Gibson EB-0 when Rick told him his tone sucked.

It was actually a Gibson EB2, according to the bass book by tony bacon. Strange choice for that kind of music!
If he had only stuck with it, all those solo albums might have been listenable! And he'd hang out here with us :)

Gibson Basses / Re: new Epiphone Korina Explorer Bass
« on: November 05, 2016, 01:29:46 AM »
Unfortunately, seeing that '58 Explorer site that popped up recently got me into liking explorers more and more.
I always liked the shape, but prefer short scale.

Being short of projects, I got me this epi korina explorer and pulled the neck out. So next for this one is getting an epi EB0 neck.
The pickup cover is just for looks, I'm going black plastic like the original.

Wow, that caprice bass have the outline of my '72 Aria Diamond 1820 (same as Epiphone ET-280).
Great work, musicman

Gibson Basses / Re: Help IDing Thunderbird Pickups
« on: November 02, 2016, 11:17:59 PM »

I'm trying to confirm whether or not these are 60s-era T-Bird PUPs. They're nickel, with matching nickel pickup rings...sadly no screws.
And they weigh a ton.

It is interesting you say they weigh a ton.
Actually, weighing pickups can tell something about what's on the inside. It varies some from unit to unit I'm sure, but this is the right place to look for information. If the weight is way off, it might indicate fake pickups. Altough I agree these look like the real thing.
People here probably have exact data like weight. Ask Baz Cooper for example..

..Women? We have a T-bird queen :)

Bill's Shop: Projects, Mods & Repairs / Re: Technical question
« on: November 01, 2016, 11:08:31 PM »
Hmmm. I guess the magnet bar under the polepieces (if that is indeed the design) could be broken or has fallen off partially and therefore only impact half of the unit.. in theory! It's unlikely though, and even more so if it has happened to both pickups at the same time!

Sure is!  Then I'd recheck wiring with an ohm meter even the harness.

They are standard single coil jazz pickups? Not of the side by side dual coil variety?

I notice the nut is slim too; on my 'regular' grabber the nut is full size.
