The Outpost Cafe / Re: The dead of winter
« on: February 13, 2024, 09:19:00 AM »
I'm breathing a sigh of relief with this last storm which is staying to the south of New Hampshire. My snowblower is sitting in the shed with two flat tires I never bothered to get fixed before the season. So far I've managed to clear my driveway with just a shovel. I figure I could use the exercise although it can get a little taxing on the back. Looks like you won't have to worry about any accumulation either morrow. My condolences to any of you dealing with it in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York and parts of New Jersey or  Pennsylvania.

One of my neighbors has a business renting out those inflatable bouncy castles. Perfect venue for their reunion tour.

Good thinking Dave, that way the band can dance the monkey or the jerk without having to take their hands off their instruments.

Cool group. Who's going with me to the Ladybird reunion tour? Should be a knee slapping good time!  ;D

I suppose if you had a fear of clowns, that could cross over to making Kiss creepy. There was also the scene in that documentary where Stanley was in the bed with multiple women while being interviewed. I can see how that might creep some out. Not wearing a shirt on stage over the age of 50 seems a little creepy to me.

Wasn't there a Gibson showcase event in LA last Thursday? I thought there was some new custom color Epiphone Thunderbirds being talked about. Inverness Green, Silver Mist and Ember Red perhaps?

Thanks for posting Westen! Hey Dave, isn't about time for a hiatus on Deep Purple too?   :vader:

I guess I'm missing something - what are the tipoffs to someone using autotune?  Not sure what to listen for.

Check out T-Pain. The Cher song "Believe"is another good example.

Not that it matters, but I never cared for 38 Special. I always felt they just had the Van Zant guy in the band to add some sort of "Southern street cred". And two drummers (ala Allman Bros)? For THAT kind of music???

Larry Junstrom, the bass player, was the original bassist for Lynyrd Skynyrd before Leon Wilkeson. He did great work on the song "Rockin' into the night". YouTube won't let me post because I have an adblocker on my desktop at work. Anybody else dealing with the same issue? Any solutions?

Gibson Basses / Re: Epiphone Rex Brown Thunderbird

Rex should have just had these made in his home state of Texas. I mean half of China has already come through that open border. I bet those Chinese solder joints are still made out of good old lead too. Considering how much manufacturing has left China, they better step up their game. From what I've seen, most of the Chinese products are coming at steep discounts to make up for all the competition they are getting from Cambodia and Vietnam. As long as Epiphone can prove Uyghur slave labor isn't used, it's all good. I'm going to keep my wallet shut for the time being though as I'm still holding out hope for a Semiquincentennial anniversary Thunderbird in 26'.

There's a video on Youtube where someone takes the pickups out of the Rex Brown Gibson sig basss and the  pickups are DeColas. The silver and gold combo looks alright to me but overall the Epi is probably a better value than the Gibson version considering it's about half the price. The Epi vintage pro is still tough to beat compared to the Epi Rex Brown.

If you're talking about the G2 branded Gene Simmons affiliated version of the V, I'm guessing it got shelved probably because the G2 bird didn't sell.
The Epi Grabber will probably do well even if the pickup doesn't slide. As long as it has the cool little truss rod cover that says "The Grabber" on it. A good option would be to put a cat emoji sticker on after the The.  ;D

I think you're talking about the burst one with the three point. There's another one with no toggle and no burst either. It's just all red with a little flame in the top. He has the original pickups and wiring saved too.

There's an interesting one in Cherry on Reverb loaded with Alembic pickups.
