Whatever Paul doesn't have to prove anything at this point. Big ups to little Meatloaf there.

Ever try compression wounds? They are oval wraps that have some characteristics of rounds but smoother. Ghs makes the pressure wounds and compressors for Ken Smith. The alloy of the wraps is nickel iron. For flats I don't mind the tension of La Bellas but Rotos feel way more tense to me. There's also GHS precision flats and DR makes flats. I thought the DRs were way to thuddy and had a dead E string in the set I tried. Black Diamond and Ernie Ball fall into the chromes / Fender sound.

That's because Jamerson played upright too. Those open notes are a welcome option whenever you can use them for position shifts and when playing a 4 string you need to play more vertically up and down the fret board compared to a 5 string or more bass. Rahock beat me to it. The way Jamerson played out of key open notes made them almost sound diatonic. I've had the standing in the shadows of Motown book for a long time and even though it doesn't seem like it should work, when you can nail a line like "How long has that evening train been gone", it makes perfect sense.

Glad it's working out for you. If it's any consolation, your bass is still lighter than my 78' Precision.

The Grand Funk tune was called I don't have to sing the blues. I wasn't trying to claim it was particularly bluesy. I've been listening to them often lately and jokingly used the title of the song as an excuse to post it, like summertime blues. Sorry to derail, carry on.

That Sissy Man blues is also a take on Robert Johnson's I believe I'll dust my broom. Here's ZZ top's take on it.

Maybe he didn't wear wigs or panty hose but Kokomo Arnold sings about switch hitting in a dry spell on this one.

No need to get flustered Dave. I hear the blues in what Blackmore played in the context of that Deep Purple song. If you can't, maybe Uwe's right and you weren't listening. I wouldn't say they qualified as stadium rock at that point in their career yet either. Here's a more traditional blues song dealing with heartache.

I think of Hendrix more as a mix of post modernist blues/ R&B and surrealist expressionism  ???
Anyhow, my last posts were tongue in cheek, but to back up Uwe, Ritchie definitely could feel the blues. Dig his licks on this tune.

That's interesting to know Dave thanks. Then the new La Bellas don't seem different at all from the DTBs except for the gauges

I thought all the LaBella flats were hex core before these new strings came out ???
I tried round core DR flats that had rough looking windings and saw others with similar issues. The TIs also have the layer of silk thrown in between there. I don't think the new low tension La Bellas have that.

Ugh, you and the grey hairs showing up don't have to remind me  :P

Also these are round core vs hex core Pilgrim. The whole idea of a flatwound string with a round core makes me nervous thinking that the outer wraps will have nothing to bite on to keep them from falling apart.
