The Outpost Cafe / Re: Long winded update

John! I'm glad you checked in. Life can throw you some curve balls... Between those and the self inflicted ones (at least with me), it can be pretty crazy sometimes. I hope you continue to find the bright spots, my friend!

That's the second thing I ever learned on bass (the first being Cold Gin). I laugh when I think of how long it took me to get it down, but you're right; that's a line not to be messed with. So iconic and powerful within the context of the song, and isn't that exactly what most of us aim for?

He didn't even hit Ace Frehley when he showed up drunk at his hotel door on a Japan tour adorned in period-correct SS officer regalia mouthing something about "world jewry" - a slight punch in the face wouldn't have gone amiss in that situation, especially for the child of a Auschwitz survivoress. Instead he saved Ace's life some time later. Life isn't always black & white.

It's sad that Ace only ever gets the credit... (the original shots of Paul also sport the "correct" arm band).

That one is probably priced low due to the broken (off) scroll pieces on the headstock. Don't know how they sound.

Merry Christmas, guys!

I don't think the guy did anything criminally inappropriate (and told my daughter at the time: "Welcome to the real world, unless you are butt-ugly as a woman, this will happen to you again and again, you will have to learn how to handle it gracefully."), but I was actually proud of her reaction. She became neither a victim nor did she go on a vendetta character-assassinating him.

This is perfectly reasonable and a sign of good parenting as well as a smart young woman (to have consulted with her parents about how to handle it). Kudos to all of you.

And I'm with Dave 100% on his views here.

He needs to sell a couple of these to the band, Ghost.

I had to warm to the Smithereens, but that was more my distaste for the modern rock station I grew up with (and its most ardent listeners) than the band itself. Once I gave them a real listen they became a favorite for the exact reasons you guys mention.

I have a friend who met and spent time hanging out with Pat after the band's initial heyday (but still in the band/touring setting) and she spoke highly of his generosity and friendship toward her as a fan and then friend/acquaintance. She's pretty devastated at the moment. I feel for Pat and his family, but I also feel for the devoted fans he leaves behind. RIP

Great mini-review. I know what my next bass will be now.

I ran across this a few months back and was discussing with a friend how cool, yet how surreal it was (especially knowing McGuinn's reputation for being such a sour puss). RIP to a great talent and a guy who comes across in every interview as the nicest, most humble rock star in the world.

How do those newer EB basses sound? They've kinda grown on me and I find myself sorely tempted...

If it were priced normally I'd love to take a swing, but not for that money.

Thank you, Dave. I should have checked that.
