The Outpost Cafe / Re: RIP Malcolm Young
« on: November 19, 2017, 02:01:36 AM »
Some of the loss feels handled already considering his prior condition but still sad of course. RIP and thanks for all the inspiration Mal. Fantastic guitarplayer who never strayed away from the path once he had set it out.

I read a rare (since Malcolm rarely did interviews like that) ca '93 interview reissued in Classic Rock a few years ago where there was a real struggle to get anything out of him. When Malcolm revealed that he saw Led Zeppelin live in the 70's there was hope for getting some answers what he thought of them. Only answer: "Nah, the singer was a blonde fellar. Bit of a poser."

Same with modern (at the time) music. The journalist again lit his hopes up when on the question if Malcolm had listened to any modern music, he after some thought says: "My daughter listens to this band Nirveeaanah (Aussie accent)." Question: "So what do you think about them"
Answer: "Nah, the singer's a blonde fellar. Bit of of a poser"

Great videos............. Who would have ever thought that Ginger Baker would be the only one left alive???

You'd think this interview was made at a nursery home:

I was so happy when I scored my ebony (fin, and board, now that I am corrected) RD Artist a decade ago.  Didn't come cheap, but I certainly couldn't afford one now (vintage or new).

That's cool because I got hold of my ebony/ebony also about a decade ago at a really good price.

Vintage ones were maple/natural and rosewood for all all other colours as you are aware so this is legit IMHO. ...

The vintage black and burst models had ebony fretboards just like the Rippers. That said I think rosewood is ok.

Does it have a Polish Corridor going thru the wings, i.e. is it neck thru?  8)

Description says: "The body is made of selected alder and has a set in or thru body neck, made out of maple or mahogany. "

Oh, I've never heard of the deterioration of the winding insulation from pickguard fumes before.

Yes, if you don't need to get all original parts there's no big challenge really. Ripper pickups do come up for sale. Repro pickguard is no problem. Though you might consider waiting to get one until you've found two physically identical pickups. Initial production pickups mounts into the body wood. Later era have ears mounted in the pickguard.  Regular Schaller BM tuners usually fit.

I get an uneasy feeling seeing that samurai sword in the background in combination with his personality.  ???

I would love to take that plunge one day- great inspiration.  :toast:

Go for it! It's really interesting once once you scratch the surface, though of course very important to be aware of the dangers of the high voltages. This subject is of the kind that the more you study it, the more you become  aware how little you know.

I don't know that the "new" formula country bothers me any more than the "new" formula pop sound, including the millenial warble. I don't find them offensive as much as I find them like caffeine free diet Coke - no substance, no flavor.

My thoughts also. I believe these acts are mostly for people with less genuine interest in music and who use it as easy listening background noise while doing their dishes.
