Stray Dog I was unfamiliar with them until I watched the episode of Old Grey Whistle Test about ELP and they were mentioned as touring with them.

Wow, that turned out great Denis!  It's always nice to see a bass rescued from a horrible fate like that.

Thanks so much! And it sounds GREAT with the Seymour Duncans!

I think maybe I'd posted a pic of the finished bass but given I was using Photobucket it likely disappeared long ago into behind the "third party hosting" error crap.

Hope it goes the way you want it to! I feel that Rippers get the short end of the stick so am pleased when someone brings one back to life.
It's interesting to note that Seymour Duncan offers relpacement Ripper pick ups for the EARLY ones, not the later Rippers.

Finished it after a year or two. Still have some of that nasty white stuff on there I couldn't get off. Someday...

I was lucky enough to score a really nice original pg for it!
During the course of this project I discovered there were at least two variations of the Ripper TRC.

I rehabbed a '73 a few years ago from a project I got off Craigslist. Got it for $250, stripped the hideous paint off it to find it was a natural finish originally. Installed Seymour Duncans and required the 4-way switch so I could use each pup independently.
It was a fun project!

Sounds like King Crimson! Kicking myself for not going when they played here in Chicago. Haven't seen them since the "double trio" days in the 90s.

If you're talking about the June 28, 2017 Chicago show, KC recorded it is selling a really nice double CD set of it for $20! WELL WORTH IT!!!

So, King Crimson. I'd never seen them before but listened to a lot of their music in high school and college, so when I learned they were going to be in town there was no way I was going to miss it. It was the first time King Crimson played in Raleigh since March 29, 1972 when they performed in Dorton Arena.

I'm glad I went and immediately wished they were playing for two nights.

The show was incredible. The music was delicate, brutal, technical, warm, dissonant, orchestrated, beautiful, unnerving, cacophonous, melodic, brilliant.
It was an assault.

Here's the setlist from the show.

Apparently, the origin of the band's name is as follows: "The band's name was derived from the ethnic slur that Japanese people look like monkeys, and that Asian people are said to be "yellow" in skin color."

Wicked sense of humor.

Agreed! I listened to quite a few of their tunes on YouTube yesterday while working. Really good music and interesting to listen to.
I also found some bass covers of their songs that were really good: all but one I listened to were played with Thunderbirds, new, old, NR, etc. The bass riffs are terrific and perfectly suited to T birds.
