They’ve even copied the color from my latest custom Thunderbird 8 string bass.
Imitation is the biggest form of flattery.

Gibson Basses / Re: '60s Thunderbird bridge nuts...
« on: February 19, 2019, 05:59:08 AM »
What is the external dimensions of the original nut, the wrench size? Would it be possible to find nuts with the correct exterior dimensions and drill and tap them for the bridge saddle screw threads?

Nope Nope Nope...it's NOT a Nylock Njut...Its a small white piece of plastic inside at the bottom of the hole to stop the 6/32" screw from going any further.  That is so Once the screw goes through the rear of the bridge, it then threads through the saddle and then back through the bridge, ending with the hex cap nut. you tighten the nut and if correct, you should be able to freely adjust the saddle back or forward. It's NOT a nylock with a Nylon washer along the thread. Its a tiny spacer as described. I will TRY to remove one of mine....they all have locktite on them

BAZ! What a beautiful bass. Natural might be my fav T-Bird finish. I tried to work a deal on a '76 about 12 years ago, but we couldn't agree on a price. Good luck with the search.
Thanks Tom!!! Miss that bass!!! I used it on the old Daisy Chain demos!!! And our first shows!!

It’s more of a sentimental thing. If it’s broken now, forget it...but if it’s not...Here’s what I just picked up the other day...a UFO bass right after a I saw a delta shaped UFO over McHenry. 3 lights in the sky shaped like a triangle.

I seriously would trade  My 1965 Thunderbird II to get it back... I also had a black '76  that I also sold to Phil that had a route under the bridge to lower the bridge so when i got it, I had Steve Dvorak fill it and refinish it. It would show under blacklight...Wish I had One of those basses.

I wish I could find my old one from the Daisy Chain Days....Sold it to a guy named Phil who would travel across the US with his 3-5 year old daughter buying guitars and basses for some wealthy Japanese guys...He carried a Motorola brick cell phone...around 1990...I can describe my Bass..Natural...under the now replaced original Kluson bass tuners are 4 plugged tuner holes  because I had traded it away for a few months and The guy had put Grover bass tuners in there for a while...I had My old tech Steve Dvorak plug and redial and re-install the original tuners....and the strap pegs...all 3 are big dowels plugged in the body....hidden by the original strap pegs...It was a very light color...almost Korina-ish....Wish I still had the serial number written down...I'll try to find some live pics..

That would be cool! My buddy Tony Carl has an Embassy with a repaired headstock...I saw a Newport neck for sale...thought that he could possibly use it for a NICE restoration scarf joint!

Yes the Batwing...(which most people don't know it's NOT a batwing but the letter "E") but I need someone to confirm. can someone measure the headstocks starting from the nuts to the tip of the headstock??

Does anybody here KNOW if the vintage 1960's Epiphone Embassy and Newport basses headstock's are the exact same size??? Thanks

The Quality of brand new Gibson speaks for itself...Orange peels...needed fret jobs...pickup/wiring issues...they really do NOT care about musicians....especially us Gibson Bass Lovers...It's a dog Gone Shame....they could be so cool like fender reissuing the classic basses....But they don't and never will...
