The Outpost Cafe / Re: RIP Gregg Allman
« on: May 28, 2017, 01:51:04 PM »
Only got to see him the three times and remember, you are never alone with music Rick... ;)

Thanks  for that ;), but damn it I am feeling alone. The last couple years all my heroes in music have bought it, my friends have been dropping one after another. A year and a half ago my long time friend and lead guitarist died, a month ago my harp player died, a couple of guys I used to jam with are gone and a couple more aren't likely to be here much longer. Went through a triple bypass myself a couple of months ago.
This gettin' old shit ain't for sissies, and if I ever get my hands on that SOB who coined the term "golden years" he's likely to get my last and greatest ass kickin'  in my long history. Well , I got that out of my system ;D.
Back to business , once again RIP to a great hero and inspiration of mine.

I can't even say for sure how many times I've seen him. Maybe twenty, maybe more? Very sad, I'm running out of heroes and I'm running out of friends .
RIP

I was under the impression that Fender bought them just to kill them. Of course that was mainly just my suspicious nature. Fender has had them for a few years now , and to my knowledge, done nothing to incorporate any Genz Benz technology. Technology is something you just can't sit on because somebody else will come up with something else that will make that stuff you've been sitting on worthless. Tick Tock.

OOPS :-[.
I was definitely referring to Rivera the California co. Have to read things more carefully. In any event, it's a first class guitar cab ;D.

I've got a Rivera 2x12 guitar cab that I inherited from my lead guitar player who died a year ago and it sounds incredible. It has 2 Celestions and is a 120 watt 8 ohm cab. The cab design makes for a great, very full low end sound and also delivers the highs as good as anything out there.
They are pretty pricey cabs new but they're good stuff ;D. In my opinion, it's the big full lows that set them apart from just about anything I've heard.

I'm glad you found a winner ;D. I didn't want to trash the GK class D amps because It's a matter of personal taste, but a few years ago, I waited for those things to hit the store and had my mind pretty much made up that's what I was going to buy. I'm a fan of GK stuff in general and always looked at them as a good bang for the buck, but their class D line was way underwhelming for me. I tried every one the had in store and they were so anemic I couldn't believe GK put their name on them. I did side by side comparisons with a number of amps and almost walked away with a Markbass.  Everything I played was head and shoulders better than the GK stuff . I held out and got a Genz Benz Shuttle a few months later and  to this day couldn't be happier ;D.

Back in the heyday of ELP, they were on of the most impressive shows you could catch. I saw them about 12 times and they just kept getting better and better. They actually were not really my style of music , but their live shows were absolutely breathtaking. To date, still one of the best live bands I've ever seen. The individual and combined musicianship, the theatrics, the dynamics and Greg Lakes piercing and pure vocals made for one helluva show 8).

Roland has a couple of single 12 variations out there. I played a 60 or 80 watt one a few years ago and really liked it. I think the new ones are even a bit more powerful. They have a number of simulations to make it easy to get the sound you're looking for.

No, no , no
I've caught his show several times and he was always great. On one occasion he delivered the most moving performance I have ever seen.
I was sitting in a balcony a few feet above his piano and no more than ten feet away. He introduced his song Janie and told the story of how it was his saddest day. As he played this incredibly sad song, I watched the tears pour out of his eyes all over his piano, which he played to perfection, and delivered the lyrics with only the faintest crack and tremble in his voice. It was magnificent and I too was moved to tears. I will remember that performance forever .
RIP Leon and thank you for sharing that moment with me,
Rick
