Gibson Basses / That's one way to remove pickups...

Not for the faint of heart: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1964-ORIGINAL-GIBSON-FIREBIRD-GUITAR-FOR-REPAIR-PARTS-PROJECT/152521196146

Of course, I recall Scott's T-bird restoration but still...

I'm setting up a project bass using a single Tbird pup. A different body design and with a set neck - not a straight reproduction. My first inclination is to place the pickup in the usual 'neck' position as I know how that sounds and what to expect. However, I'm considering moving it back some - not as far back as the normal bridge position or a musicman but maybe splitting the distance. Of course, these pups have a pretty wide aperture so I imagine this can be less precise than with a single coil. Any thoughts on optimum pup placement?

Gibson Basses / Badbird ancestor on this Embassy Deluxe?
« on: February 15, 2015, 02:53:14 AM »
just got this Embassy and thought some might find this early version of someone's attempt at the badbird concept interesting. Not sure how long ago it was done but the guy I got it from said it was on the bass when he got it at least 20 years ago. It's actually pretty well done:

Second odd-ball detail, anyone ever seen Centralab pots like these before?

Gibson Basses / Embassy measurements?
« on: December 19, 2014, 02:29:59 AM »
Not sure if this should go here or "other brands"...

I just picked up an an early Epiphone Embassy Deluxe which needs some work - a little bit of a project but not too bad.

I'd like to ask if anyone here has a couple cosmetic measurements. The bass was oversprayed in black including the headstock (one would assume to camouflage a neck repair). Anyone know the correct size of the Epiphone decal and the measurement for the 2 screwholes on the trussrod cover? (I need to make a new one and want to try to be reasonably correct.)

Thanks!
