Gibson Basses / Gibson Ripper/Grabber/G-3 bridge cover
« on: November 18, 2017, 02:15:23 PM »
Does anyone make a replacement bridge cover for the Ripper/Grabber basses? I'm looking at this one but it seems like maybe it's not wide enough?

The Outpost Cafe / Help me help the Cuban music scene
« on: October 05, 2015, 08:59:25 AM »
Hi everyone, I will be travelling to Cuba in November for a short tour with my band Taxa. We are working with an organization called Solidarity Rocks who are a Canadian organization that work to provide gear to Cuban people. We take for granted in North America how easy it is to walk into a music store and buy a bass, guitar, keyboard, drums, etc. That is simply impossible to do in Cuba.

There are many young people in Cuba hungry to play music but it is impossible to find or afford even the most basic electric guitar there.
We are collecting donations to buy as much gear as we can bring with us to donate to the local electric music scene in Cuba, which will range from large pieces like guitars and amps, but also as many packs of string, picks, tuners, cables, etc. as we can. The electrified music scene in Cuba is truly in it's infancy and we can all be part of helping foster it's growth.

This project has the blessing of both the Canadian and USA consulates, who both want to foster cultural exchange with Cuba, particularly the USA who's new consulate in Cuba opened in July and are keen to support unity between the USA and Cuba on the cultural and arts fronts as well as many others.

Please use the link below if you are able to donate. Any amount would be appreciated, big or small. Donations are being accepted by paypal and squarespace. Thanks everyone, your support is greatly appreciated!

Gibson Basses / Gibson RD Artist electronics clones?
« on: September 13, 2015, 07:42:37 PM »
Hi everyone, sorry if this has been covered before, I did a search and didn't find anything about it.

Curious if anyone makes a clone of the active preamp and/or pickups in the Gibson RD Artist bass? Figured if anyone would know it'd be here.

Gibson Basses / Show me you Thunderbird pickup covers
« on: February 26, 2014, 10:41:17 AM »
Are there any cool TBird pickup covers besides the current black plastic and the aftermarket chrome/nickel covers?

I'm looking for retro looking covers that aren't the two above. Anything out there?
Thanks!

Gibson Basses / 2013 Gibson EB bass mods
« on: February 14, 2014, 03:13:29 PM »
I came across a lefty EB bass in a store today. I'm not in love with the look but I hadn't seen a lefty before so I gave it a try. To my surprise, it's a very nice bass. Plays nice, sounds quite good plugged in and weighs 7.45 lbs. on my digital scale. Very comfy.  It a satin finish sunburst.

I'm wondering if anyone has done any mods to their EB basses to tweak their looks?
Elephant ear tuners, chrome pickup covers, different knobs, etc.

Also how much work would it be to turn the satin finish into a typical gloss finish?

Gibson Basses / Please recommend me Thunderbird replacement pickups
« on: December 22, 2012, 12:43:13 PM »
Hey all, the impossible has finally happened and Gibson is issuing left handed basses. So I have a Thunderbird on order. I've put some time in on a right handed 2012 Thunderbird for reference and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a replacement pickup for thunderbirds with a bit more top end clarity?

I also tried a stock Epiphone Elitist Thunderbird and preferred it's sound to the Gibson one, if that helps show closer what I'm after.

Thanks!

Bass Amps & Effects / Recommend power tubes for an SVT?
« on: October 21, 2011, 10:48:28 AM »
Hey PBG (or anyone else who can help),
Can I get a recommendation for a set of power tubes for my '73 SVT? 6550 or KT88 is fine.

Also, has anyone tried the Tung Sol KT120? Could an old SVT handle a set of these without modding, and would they make a difference in the amp's output?

Thanks!

Bass Amps & Effects / Hey PBG (and others), does this seem right to you?
« on: February 01, 2011, 11:55:15 AM »

This is a short vid from Tech 21 to basically make the argument their new 1969 300 watt amp is as loud as a vintage SVT.

My problem with this is the 1969 uses the same power amp that's in the Landmark 300, and I've compared it to my SVT and the SVT spanks it hard.

Am I missing something?

The Outpost Cafe / Family SPAM: My lady's Etsy shop
« on: November 27, 2010, 05:12:35 PM »
Hey everyone, my lady is a crafty sort so she's opened an Etsy shop to sell things she makes.

She's giving part of the money she makes from the shop to help a local animal shelter, so good karma points involved. Don't know how much this'd interest you bass player fellas, but if you have family into crafts and knick knacks please let them know about this.

Thanks!

The Bass Zone / Good Guys Guitars is closing
« on: October 29, 2008, 07:39:22 AM »
GGG is shutting down and they have a bunch of basses left, including a few Gibsons. There might be deals to be had. I'm not connected to the store, just thought I'd mention the chance at possible deals to you guys.

Gibson Basses / Epi Elite T-Bird pickups vs. Gibson pickups
« on: August 28, 2008, 06:54:14 AM »
Were the pickups in the Epi Elite T-Bird the same as the pickups in the Gibson Thunderbird? If not, does anyone know how they differ?
