The Outpost Cafe / Hey y'all
« on: June 16, 2018, 10:26:38 AM »
I thought I'd drop by.  Quite of few of you I still see on FB.  A lot has happened.  I think you all knew that I got divorced, but in the past year, I have met someone, bought a house together and we are getting married soon.  Busy boy here.

At the last time I was posting, I had quit playing.  I still can't really play more than 5 minutes without losing the feeling in my arm, but I'm thinking of giving it a go again.  I was thinking back when I was curious about doing upright, but really don't have the feel for it.  I tried the Zeta Crossover bass, and found that it was an easier transition, so I'm thinking I may visit that idea again.

Anyway...Hi, y'all!

Guitars Etc. / Sunn guitar
« on: June 05, 2017, 04:18:33 PM »
I need the experts here.  I'm helping my girlfriend clear out her basement of her late husband's stuff, including 17 guitars/basses, a number of amps, telescopes and camera gear.

Among the guitars is a Sunn plexiglass guitar.  She thinks there were very few of these made.  What can anyone tell me about these?

The Outpost Cafe / Train...Train...

Among my new interests is an uncataloged auction here every couple of months.  They have two separate auctions - the morning is a back room of stuff, no catalog, no online.  In the afternoon, it's a cataloged auction with online bidding.  This month is train heaven for anyone into O gauge.  These are the cataloged items.  There are probably a hundred or more sitting in the back room.  I may take a shot at a few.  Lots of NOS in boxes.

The Outpost Cafe / Also....Buffin and Dallas Taylor
« on: January 18, 2016, 07:43:50 PM »
This has been the week when we realize that we, and all those musicians we grew up listening to, are in the autumn of our lives.

RIP Dale Griffin aka Buffin (Scott has already been posting on FB.  I'm a huge Mott fan from way back,  and got to see them live)

RIP Dallas Taylor. (sigh...I'm getting old, and everyone is posting all over.  This was a year ago today.)

The Bass Zone / Guess who's playing again....for 7 minutes...
« on: February 12, 2015, 11:49:42 AM »
Well, I'm not sure how, but I'm going to be doing a show with my old band in Cincinnati on Apr 4.  The annual '80s Pop Rocks show will see the debut and exit of The Bad Shatners doing a vibrant 7 minutes of song.  This should be fun.  I need to get my bass out again.  This one will be with the Embassy, too.   8)

The Outpost Cafe / RIP Jack Bruce
« on: October 25, 2014, 07:36:15 AM »
From his FB page:

It is with great sadness that we, Jack’s family, announce the passing of our beloved Jack: husband, father, granddad, and all round legend. The world of music will be a poorer place without him, but he lives on in his music and forever in our hearts.

I said he didn't look well in the Silver Rails interviews, and also said that album sounded like he was giving everything he had left.  A sad day.  He was an inspiration to so many of us.

He may have made his name in Cream, but this is the song that I will always think of personifying him best.

Lots of stuff in the public domain, if you didn't already know.  Here's the link to the music archives.  Lots of little bands, and a few well known ones.  The Dead have over 9,000 shows here.

I've loved ARS from the moment I heard this - on a jukebox, no less - way back when.  A bass solo that really grabs me.  Starts about 6:15.

Guitars Etc. / Old Gibson SG help needed
« on: June 11, 2014, 02:07:48 PM »
A friend of mine is curious about this one.  He used to own one exactly like it, but wants to know what he had (he sold it over 40 years ago).
He thinks it's fairly rare, based on color, and from '62/63.  He also wonders how many were made.

Anyone know something?
