Bass Amps & Effects / Warwick cabinets

Euro Outposters ...... talk to me - I know very little. I'm looking at the new Celestian-loaded WCA115LWCE - Neo 15", 500W or the WCA112LWCE - Neo 12", 400W. Specs look good, can't find a single review. Local music store is willing to bring one in on spec for a test-drive and seem to be blowing them out at about 1/2 price. Anyone have any experience?

Anyone have any user experience? There's a local guy selling off a few of their "Global" line Jazz copies for cheap. Just wondering if I can expect something in the SX quality range or better .....

Why am I only discovering this band now?!? Anyone else familiar with their material? What a fantastic band, kind of a cross between The Black Crowes and Free with a dash of Hendrix for good measure. The original singer had a range to die for and Audley Freed is a killer guitarist. Shame they only lasted for 2 albums.

Fender Basses / Serial Number
« on: October 19, 2011, 03:44:13 PM »
Hey all ..... looking at doing a swap for an American Special Precision Bass. I'm told the SN is US10126344 but I can't seem to trace down date of manufacture. Any ideas? I realize these are a recent addition to the Fender lineup, just curious if anyone here knows if that serial number puts the bass as a 2010 or 2011?

Thanks!

Unreal. I've played this festival for the last 13 years but didn't attend this year. On average, 30,000+ fans in attendance every night ..... all I can say is lucky the high winds were hitting the front of the stage making it topple backwards as opposed to the unimagineable alternative.

Richie Hayward of Little Feat has lost his battle with cancer and passed away. Things will never be the same ....... this is such an incredible loss to the music community and a sad day indeed.

The Outpost Cafe / Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

 >:( ....... I think I've got it

Over the course of my bass-playing career, I've periodically had my left hand "clamp up" on me. No biggie, really only happened about once a year over the last 20 years or so and only when really digging in for extended periods of time or during weeks of back-to-back gigs. Now I'm playing upright regularly and it's happening on almost every gig to one degree or another. Last night's show was no exception - after a particularly grueling first set (very physical, lots of sweating, juggling back-up vocals with some pretty intricate bass-lines, lots of Rockabilly slap), my hand literally stopped working early on in the 2nd set. Clamped tight like a vise around the neck and I couldn't free my fingers up for any dexterity at all. I managed to just slide my hand up and down the neck to hit the notes I needed and finished up the song. Between songs, I gave my left-hand fingers a good stretch backwards and felt the pressure release a bit. Eased up on my attack and kept on playing. It was still there but at least I had some dexterity back. About three songs later - back with a vengeance!

This sucks so huge, you have no idea. I've been having the time of my (bassplaying) life on upright, invested hours and mucho $$$ and now it looks like I'm going to have to take a break for therapy of some sort.

It seems to be localized strictly in the left hand index, middle and ring fingers, numbness in the deep tissue of my inner fore-arm, feels like someone's stretching the ligaments. I've read a little about the condition and I'm not one to self-diagnose but this looks eerily familiar.

Anyone been through this ..... any suggestions?

Anyone here care to share experiences? I've tried one (the 2-pickup version) on a few occasions. I want to like them, I really do ...... but they feel like an Eastwood Airline to me, a little on the cheap side. The 3-pick-up version with switching on the other hand, I haven't tried yet. I'm intrigued ...... and admittedly looking for something in that price-point that's got a retro feel to it.

Edit - Woops! Fixed the title to this thread .....

Being a National Defence employee, the mood here at HQ is really somber today. Military personnel are in shock that one of their own has reportedly gone on a crime-spree. Hits close to home as this all takes place in Eastern Ontario and while the Colonel worked in Trenton (2 hrs. away), he lived here in Ottawa.

Bass Amps & Effects / Score!!!!!
« on: March 08, 2009, 02:48:40 PM »
Popped into my local Long & McQuade doing the usual monthly rounds and while demo-ing some new gear noticed a trade-in cabinet off in the corner. Genz Benz single 12" enclosure, front ported with a tweater. Upon further inspection, I realized that the price-tag on it said $50 ....... so I grabbed the salesguy, verified that it WAS in fact $50 (which, IMO, is at least $150 lower than it should have been) and walked out the door with it.

Sounds great, it's in really good condition and should serve me well for years to come! Gotta love it when a plan comes together, I always say ......

Bass Amps & Effects / New rig vs. old - need input and suggestions ....
« on: February 05, 2009, 01:31:19 PM »
Due to the fact that I'm doing mostly small clubs and medium sized shows with a heavy emphasis on Upright, I'm thinking of revamping the entire rig. I'm looking for something a little lighter, more versatile, compact and portable. I have some ideas the direction to go in but ......... suggestions? Here's what I've got right now:

Practice Amp/Upright gigs - Fender Sidekick 60B SS combo
Medium venues - Ampeg SVTIII head into a single 300W Yorky 1x15
Bigger gigs - Racked Ampeg SVTIII preamp into Yammy pwr amp into single 300W Yorky 1x15

The direction I want to go in is to sell the Fender combo, the SVTIII head and the Yorky 15 and go to the following:

Practice Amp/Upright gigs/Small to Med. venues - GB Shuttle 3.0 (or 6.0?) into a single 8 ohm 12"
Medium to bigger gigs - Racked Ampeg SVTIII preamp into Yammy pwr amp into 2, 12" 8 ohm cabs

The questions for me right now are:

1) What 12" cabs to get? I've researched Avatar, GB, Traynor and Markbass ..... so far (pricewise), it looks like a toss-up between Avatar and Traynor BUT I haven't tried either. My big concern is buying sight unseen (single 12" cabs aren't real popular in these here parts). How will a single 12" sound with an Underwood-equipped Upright? With my Jazz and Precision basses?
2) What's up with the Shuttle? I'm hearing really good things about them but I've also seen a class-D head by Carvin for a little less that's getting good reviews too ...... and I'd really like to know if the tube in the Shuttle 6.0 makes it really that much better than the 3.0. OR, should I just look at keeping the head and replacing the single 15 with 2, 12" cabs ...... ?

Ugh. Now I know why I've stuck with my rig for so long. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm too freakin' old to be lugging around all this gear, I wouldn't change a thing but I REALLY need to downsize. So .... any and all feedback you can give me on 12" cabs and the various makes of class-D heads would be GREATLY appreciated - in particular, the ones mentioned above.

The Bass Zone / Another new band thread ....
« on: January 14, 2009, 07:02:52 AM »
Aside from playing upright with singer/songwriter Rick Hayes and electric in Ken Workman and the Union, I've got one other project on the go. "King Rattler" made its debut on Jan. 2/09 to a sold-out, really appreciative crowd. It's a mix of 50's Rock, Swing, Surf, Rockabilly and Blues - "Swingabilly" sums it up pretty well.

I just put together a Myspace page so send on through some friend requests (on yeah, I know this appears to be a direct clone of Chris P's thread from a week ago ...... IT IS!!!)
