The Outpost Cafe / A Personal Request (if I may)
« on: March 19, 2018, 06:33:42 PM »
I know that you guys don't know this man from Adam
and at the risk of being redundant
(some of you may have already seen my post regarding this on Facebook and elsewhere),
but Chris Campbell performed with me as James Brown in our local tribute band, "Cold Sweat".

Well, I recently found out that Chris has cancer.

He also has a lovely wife Marti and two beautiful daughters, Nyadean and Fatima as well
and unfortunately, his medical issues have cause enormous hardship for the family of late.

This is why a friend of his started a crowdfunding site for Chris and his family-

https://www.youcaring.com/chriscampbellfamily-1014061#

It would mean a lot to me if you could share whatever you can spare to help Chris and his family with their mounting medical bills.

No donation is too small!

I thank you all in advance for even considering helping with this matter that is so near and dear to my heart
because Chris is a good man.

Aloha-
Gonzo

...and PS-

On a more personal note:
F%$K cancer.

The Outpost Cafe / My Stolen Steinberger- Legal Question
« on: February 15, 2014, 11:57:11 AM »
A bass with the serial number of my stolen Steinberger is for sale on another board.

I've e-mailed the seller but received no reply yet.

As with all Steinbergers, the serial number is on the neck.
The bass was white when I owned it
(25 years ago when it was stolen)
and now it's red with a red pick guard.
This makes me think the neck was bolted onto this body at some point.

Now...
Is the bass still mine
and do I have legal claim to it
or just the neck?

Any informed opinions are greatly appreciated.

The Outpost Cafe / Christmas Gig
« on: December 06, 2010, 02:09:55 AM »
I recently did a Christmas Choral Concert
(with a 24 piece orchestra and full choir)
and I've uploaded a couple mp3s here-
http://www.reverbnation.com/gonzobass

The first bar or so is missing on both of them,
due to a slow soundman on the PA's "mute" button,
but the rest of the tune is there.

Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus" was of course played as written
but the second one,
"A Very Jazzy Christmas",
was an improv of mine over a chord chart.

If you've got a sec,
let me know what ya think?

The Outpost Cafe / Please, Help Me Save the Music
« on: March 06, 2010, 11:24:26 AM »

This is a personal request from me
to help in what I feel is a very worthy cause.

Quote
Please help save the Hawaii County Band.

The Hawaii County Band, which is part of the Parks & Recreation Department of County of Hawaii, has just been informed that they will not be funded after June 30, 2010, thereby effectively ending a 127 year Big Island of Hawaii tradition. The Mayor and the Parks and Recreation Department Head have refused to consider refunding the band, even though the savings will constitute less than 1.4% of the total annual budget of the Department and less than one tenth of 1% of the total annual county budget.

The Hawaii County Band was formed in 1883 during the period of the Hawaiian Monarchy and existed through the Hawaiian Republic and was finally incorporated into the County of Hawaii during the territorial period of Hawaii. The band has performed at festivals, parades, public ceremonies and other Big Island events for 127 years, an extraordinarily long tradition for the youngest state in the nation.

Even if you don't live in Hawaii, please show your support for the music & arts, the Big Island community as well as a part of history and sign this petition. You may also show your support by emailing (or calling - area code 808) the following members of the Hawaii County Council;

Hawaii County Council:

Dominic Yagong  961-8264    dyagong@co.hawaii.hi.us
Donald Ikeda       961-8225    dikeda@co.hawaii.hi.us
J Yoshimoto        961-8225    jyoshimoto@co.hawaii.hi.us
Dennis Onishi      961-8396   donishi@co.hawaii.hi.us
Emily Naeole       965-2712   enaeole@co.hawaii.hi.us
Guy Enriques       961-8263   genriques@co.hawaii.hi.us
Brenda Ford         326-5684   bford@co.hawaii.hi.us
Kelly Greenwell    327-2642   kgreenwell@co.hawaii.hi.us
Pete Hoffmann      887-2043  phoffmann@co.hawaii.hi.us

Mayor:
William P. Kenoi   961-8211  cohmayor@co.hawaii.hi.us

Department of Parks and Recreation Director:
Robert A. Fitzgerald  961-8311  parks_recreation@co.hawaii.hi.us

But please hurry, the County Council is meeting on the March 22, 2010 to discuss the final budget.
They have the power to overturn the Mayor's budget and fund the band.

Thank you.

I have friends and coworkers who play in the County Band
(many of whom are retirees who still play)
and my children and I have enjoyed their music many times.
To see this tradition end with our generation would really be a shame.

You don't need to be a resident of Hawaii to sign
and there is no registration or lengthy form to fill out.

So, I would greatly appreciate if you could all
please take just a few seconds
to electronically sign the petition below-

Petition to Save the Hawaii County Band

The Outpost Cafe / Stolen Gear
« on: January 28, 2010, 12:29:49 PM »
I just found out that Chip Douglas' studio was broken into
(Chip was the bassist for The Turtles, produced The Monkees, Linda Ronstadt, and more).

Wish I'd heard about this sooner
but here's the info he sent me this morning-

Quote
The following Items were stolen from MT. VIEW STUDIO on 11/24/09 in Hawaiian Acres, Hawaii.
POLICE REPORT CASE NUMBER: C 09033885

1-   Gibson ES-175 “F hole style” electric guitar, sunburst finish, double
pickups, 4 control knobs.  A small decal of an airplane is on the top
near the single cutaway.   3” thick hollow body with no pick guard.

2-      Epiphone wide body double cutaway 4 string electric bass, sunburst finish,
with 2 large chrome pickups. Proof of ownership photos available.

3-     Taylor round hole, single cutaway acoustic guitar, with GOLD tuning pegs.

4-   Fender Jazz bass, black sunburst finish, an “Elektra” decal at the
bass of the neck on the back side.

5-   Fender speaker cabinet with separate head.

6-   Yamaha 1 piece bass amp.

7-   2 small home stereo type speakers.

8-   1 pair of JVC earphones (HAD-990)

9-    2 gold records awarded to “Chip Douglas” for Monkees albums

CALL:  “Chip” 808-896-0103  or POLICE:   808-935-3311

No serial numbers are available
(document guys!)
but note these distinguishing features-

The Epiphone has two pickups.
They come stock with one
and Chip installed the second.

The Taylor has GOLD tuners
instead of the stock silver.

The ES 175 had it's pick guard removed.

The Fender Jazz I recall playing.
This was Elektra's studio bass,
used for later Doors albums amongst others
and has the Elektra decal on the back.

Not much chance of pawning a gold record here,
so if you guys wouldn't mind keeping an eye out in your local area,
maybe it'll lead back to the thieves.

I'd really appreciate it
and I know Chip would too.

Thanks!

Gibson Basses / EB3 Anomalies?
« on: October 02, 2008, 10:36:05 AM »
While doing research and working on my project EB3 I've noticed a few weird things:

- No serial number.
I've seen them stamped into the back of the headstock,
but there's no sign of one here.

- No truss rod access.
Nothing under the cover plate on the headstock or at the neck butt.

- Most EB3s I've seen have a black face on the headstock,
with the inlayed logo.
This one was always stained the same color as the cherry body,
with a black pinstripe around it
and "Gibson" in white paint.

Do any of these seemingly odd facts mean anything to anyone
or are these just normal variations?
 ???

Hello there folks,

Just wanted to post and say "Hello".

Been lurking for a while now,

It's good to see a lot of names I recognize from around the web
and look forward to talking bass with you all.

Especially my EB3 project-
