Bill's Shop: Projects, Mods & Repairs / Pickup question
« on: November 13, 2016, 04:17:02 PM »
Got a bit of a dilemma here... I recently purchased  a Peavey Millennium 5 string bass  from a co-worker, and I plan on removing the fretboard and replacing it with an ebony fretless fingerboard. My dilemma is this: I want to replace the single coils with hum cancelling pickups, and have narrowed my choices down to 4. Bartolini makes 2 models- original bass and classic bass, and Dimarzio makes 2- area jazz 5 and ultra jazz 5. Does anyone here have experience with any of these pups? I have been searching the interwebs and can't find a decent review on any of them! Thanks in advance!

Bill's Shop: Projects, Mods & Repairs / Recommendations?
« on: March 27, 2016, 09:04:59 AM »
I have a Squier VM fretless Jazz bass. Love it to death, but the single-coil buzz is drivin' me nutz! My favorite tone is the bridge pup, but with the dodgy wiring in my house, I have to roll the tone pot half off to kill the dynamo hum. Can y'all recommend a noiseless set that sounds good and won't break the bank(prolly have to wait til tax time next year any way)? any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance!

Rickenbacker Basses / bass cap?
« on: March 26, 2016, 06:04:26 AM »
At the risk of getting flamed and my credentials as a bassist being pulled and being forced under pain of death to play nothing but guitar for eternity, I have to ask: What is this bass cap in a Ric that y'all are mentioning from time to time? I have only played one Ric in my short but miserable life and loved/hated it with a passion! Loved the way it played, but hated the fact that whatever I did to try to get that punchy 'Ric' tone, I failed! Wore blisters on my index and middle fingers in a 2 hr jam session. Forgive my ignorance, but I gotta know! Curiosity is gonna kill me one of these days... :P

Howdy! My name is Joe Gallion and I've been lurking about since the end of December. Looks like I found the right place to hang out-I have played bass and guitar since 1980, and have been modding my instruments since 1988. From what I see here, y'all are way ahead of me, lol. Simply put, I am here to hang out and learn everything I can! Thanks in advance for putting up with me!
