Bass Amps & Effects / How important are speakon connectors anyway?
« on: September 24, 2018, 09:41:03 AM »
In another discussion, the subject of speakon amp connectors came up. Over the years people have said that no modern bass amp should be without them, and others have said that building high power bass amps without them is irresponsible. Just how true is that? Old Ampeg SVT's, Hiwatts, Marshalls are out there without those. How did we ever survive without them before? When would using speakons actually be necessary?

The Bass Zone / Bass strings online is closing.
« on: August 14, 2018, 04:48:55 AM »
Hey guys, just an FYI-if you buy strings from Bassstringsonline.com, Jason is closing the store. Inventory will have to move, so look for blowout specials.
It's a shame really, they were a great place to do business with.

Bass Amps & Effects / Power amp recommendation
« on: May 17, 2018, 06:15:43 AM »
I have been plugging my basses into a Sansamp DI pedal for about a year and a half now. It is the version 2, and I use the SVT setting. From there, it goes into the effects return of my Fender Rumble 500 combo.

I have a Rumble 1X15 extension cabinet as well. I was thinking about getting a power amp, then using that and the Sansamp as my bass rig. The thing is, I have no idea what brand I should look towards. QSC and Crown seem to be top brands. However, with the level of quality dropping in MI amplification as it has been, has the same happened with power amp production? I would appreciate your input on this, thank you all so much!

On another site, it would seem that a great majority of electric bassists are switching from roundwounds, back to flatwounds. Out in the real world however, most bassists I know and see of are still using rounds. Are you guys seeing this trend at all?

I like flats for some things, but generally, I prefer rounds. I know Carol Kaye talks about using flats for a "true bass sound," but I believe rounds still rule overall. What do you guys think?

Bass Amps & Effects / Would you do this?
« on: January 08, 2017, 12:58:14 PM »
Hey guys, this past Christmas I received a Sansamp DI pedal, the V2 version. On my New Years eve gig, I used it to bypass the EQ on my Fender Rumble 500 combo. I used the SVT setting, and a passive bass with Fender flatwounds.  I was really impressed with the tone of this thing! It has many sample sample settings to use as a starting point, but I chose the SVT setting, because I've never played through an SVT amp before. I can't say of course whether it is like a true SVT, but it was a really great tone. So my question is; I could use that to drive a power amp, into a Rumble 1X15 extension cabinet I have. Is there anybody here who would do that, or just use the Sansamp to bypass the current amps EQ section? I'm still not sure what I should do. Thanks in advance.

The Bass Zone / For those who use a chorus pedal
« on: August 14, 2014, 06:17:26 PM »
Just wondering, for those who use a chorus pedal, which one is your favorite, and why? I had a Boss pedal a few years back, but sold it, because it just didn't work for me.  Thanks for your opinions.

Bass Amps & Effects / Quality amps
« on: December 29, 2013, 11:06:09 AM »
Hello, this is my first post here. I have a question. It seems today that most MI amps-in fact, most electronic devices today-are only made to last for a few years, before failing. They're not even made to be repaired anymore, just tossed away when they break down. Is there any amp companies today building bass amps that are not like that? I would appreciate your opinions, thanks!
