I would not buy a bass from a brand that makes the absolute worst drums ever (with the possible exception of CB).  My first kit (Westbury) had shells that were over 1.5cm (about 5/8ths) thick and had voids in the plies - some of them on the bearing edges.

Westbury ain't no Yamaha.

Westbury was just the US importer's name. Just a brand name slapped on various imports. Some of them may have been bad, that doesn't make all of them bad.

I don't know about this particular bass, but you're right. That factory made different grades of guitars at different price and quality levels. Whatever the importer called for. Yet somehow there has gotten to be a cult following who think that everything coming out of there was great. I haven't seen anything personally that I'd drop $600 on.

I had one, but it also need a little enhancement to bring out the paint peeler sound.
