They're looking for a smaller space (http://www.musicradar.com/news/gibson-is-selling-its-memphis-factory) and maybe to reduce their debt load.

That's actually a wise move for once. The factory is smack-dab in the most touristy (and therefore expensive) part of the city, keeping a large manufacturing facility there is just wasting money.

Sounds like it has a large entertainment venue that hasn't been used in years. I toured it a few years back, nice facility. I only have the one bass built there, but it is likely the highest quality bass I have. Here is another article from a local Memphis paper..........

I used to play with a guy who worked QC for Gibson in Memphis. He said they were REALLY good at wasting money.
