Title: Blade Runner 2049
Post by: Highlander on October 09, 2017, 04:39:19 PM
Anyone seen it...?
My expectations were stacked pretty high but (for me; maybe not you) pleased to say they were exceeded...
Big fan of the original so it had a steep hill to run up...

They've been showing the original (Director's cut) repeatedly on TV and I never get tired of watching it. In the days of VHS I only ever actually bought a handful of movies - this was one.

Glad to hear it was good. I am looking forward to seeing this for sure.

Clearly the box office results are a reflection of the new generation not getting the same charge out of it. The impact of the original is lost on them so they don't get a lot of what's happening. I understand there are many references to the first one throughout.

I haven't seen it yet, but was baffled by the negative reviews.  This helps explain it.  But if things are getting to the point that there isn't even an appreciation for movies such as "Blade Runner," I'm not sure what to expect anymore for the future of popular culture.

Considering the movie was made in 1982, there are a boatload of 25 year old movie goers that were born the same year. Their expectations are high out of the gate, and they certainly don't have the time or the inclination to go back and get grounded with the first one.

Example: My wife is a fan of all that reality nonsense on Bravo. There is one show she watches where they have a 20 year old daughter. The family goes to Italy on vacation and rents a gorgeous villa with vaulted hand painted ceilings, absolutely breathtaking. The father is describing the art work, saying you don't see this kind of magnificent detail anymore.

She says, Who painted it?

He stutters a second then says, just for effect, Michaelangelo!

She says, C'mon Dad! You can't fool me - he's one of the Ninja Turtles....you took me to see that movie!

I have nothing to add.

What's really scary is they were born in 1992!  :o

You got me there!  :o  :-X

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

Not a short film and the soundtrack is loaded with tipping of the hat to Vangelis... there are stacks of things that (visually) go back to the original, including "advertising" for companies that no longer exist but were around us all the time then...
I've seen clips that are not in the film though...
I'll probably go and see the 3D version before it drops off the radar, just to see it...

Not a spoiler, but I did sit through to the very end of the credits, just to hear the outro music, which was every bit as good as the rest of it...
There is no "Easter Egg" hidden away at the end... when it goes to credits, that's it...

There was only about 30 people in the cinema last night... spotted Tilda Swinton exiting after watching it...

Enjoy... fans will... great story line that keeps you going right to the end... sumptuous cinematography...

My wife mentioned that she wants to see it, should we see the original film first (I can't remember anything from it, 30+ years)?

Definitely.I'd recommend watching it twice - there are a lot of little things sprinkled throughout that a second viewing will highlight.

Watch the original... Final Cut...

I'm in triple figures for the amount of times I've seen them, as there are 5 versions of the film... still have an original video, which was not a resale item... rental only...

I'm somewhat sad that way...

(key thing to know from the Final Cut/Directors Cut is the dream sequence and Gaff's origami at the end)

Absolutely!  One of the truly visionary pictures, and stunning visually.

When I rode into Tokyo last fall in a bus, it was night. I saw the lights of downtown Tokyo and the very first image that came to my mind was the flying car scenes from Blade Runner.
