Hi, folks..
I'm finishing up my '58 Explorer bass project these days, and I ended up making a case for it too. I'm not too worried
about the case being historically accurate, but it will be covered with brown tolex of some sort and have pink lining.
..but where does a guy buy pink lining? We have two local stores that sell some kind of pink crushed velvet, but it seems too thin.
They both also had 'pink faux fur' but it was wery long haired.
So, do any of you guys know what product that will be similar to what Gibson uses? None of the US dealers I'm connected to have such products. I think the closest I came was searching ebay for 'pink faux upholstery fur' or something, but I don't know what the product I'm looking for is called?

Don't bother with trad linings... go for something radical... mines now 45 years old... :mrgreen:

Gibson was known to use some funky lining material from time to time.............

When I made a few inserts for Chinese cases for my 20/20s, JoAnn Fabrics had some material that was fairly close to what they used...........

I don't think JoAnn Fabrics has stores in Norway, where amptech lives.
My guess would be to try a supplier of parts for luggage, they would have fabric for the interior; or maybe a luggage repair place would be able to sell you a small amount. Maybe an upholstery shop or supplier would be able to help.

Might be able to order from Joann online, but I don't know what shipping would end up being. That's where I go for case fur. We've just recently started going more toward the crushed velvet stuff. It's kind of thin, but easy to work with. Not that we do a ton of guitar cases....

You might also look at drapery or upholstery fabric. It seems heavier than the regular stuff.

If you were in Florida, I'd say skin a few flamingos. I bet their down would make a great case liner. Since you're in Norway, dyed Polar bear fur might be a better option and you'll have a heck of a story to tell your friends. ;D

I used to do custom auto upholstery in a distant and somewhat misguided former life. Usually the dive upholstery supply shops ("trim shops") would have some of the most bizarre and entertaining stuff, and I do recall a lot of interesting fur ;D :o (was doing mostly lowrider type jobs - so crushed velvet and fur were standard protocol)
Might not hurt to peruse any auto-centric local establishments, should they exist.
(ETA: Ken would'a fit right into that scene!)

With a lining like that you won't be able to take your guitars out on the African savanna.

Maybe the test is that you should only use it for case lining if Liberace would have made a suit out of it. The crushed velvet still rocks.
