Title: RIP Chris Cornell
Post by: Chris P. on May 18, 2017, 01:12:13 AM
52. It looked like a hoax for a while but all serious media are reporting it now. I'll just blast  Black Hole Sun out of my speakers.

Was never much of a grunge fan, I still dislike Nirvana, but BHS is a classic. And 52 is far to young.

Shocked.  Gifted singer.  I especially liked the Audioslave music.

Fantastic singer, great songwriter.
Wow. 52.

And Audioslave.
And Superunknown...

One report I've seen mentions possible suicide. Just damn.

Very sad. I really loved his singing. For some reason, I never got heavily into Soundgarden. I did like the Audioslave stuff. I almost don't even want to know what happened.

I always found Soundgarden an acquired taste, the type of CD I'd listen to with some trepidation after taking a deep breath and saying to myself: "Ok, let's try and be objective about this ...". When I first heard Black Hole Sun I thought: "Why all these key changes, can't they make up their mind?"  Audioslave was easier on my ears. But he had a nice voice and I kinda liked the image he projected. Hopefully, he will be able to continue developing his weird chord changes wherever he is. And Soundgarden were of course - together with Nirvana and Pearl Jam - one third of the Holy Grunge Trinity, leaving a huge mark on the popular music of the last 25 years or so.

Not another grunge hero suicide, please! He had family.

I'm usually in the minority but my fav Soundgarden album is "Down On The Upside" with it's slightly more psychedelic vibe and great songs (especially) by Ben Shepherd.

I was never into Audioslave or some of the more metal Soundgarden and Cornell's voice could be an acquired taste but he definitely could sing. His first solo album had a Jeff Buckley vibe in it.

Cornell's death was a shock. He seemed so healthy.

Several sources say it was suicide.

Now officially ruled a suicide (hanging) by the Wayne County medical examiner. Hard to understand why.

Very sad news. I thought Soundgarden was the best of the bunch coming out of Seattle in the early 90's. Chris Cornells powerful voice was a major factor.

Horrible loss, not only an incredible singer but an amazing songwriter as well.  According to his wife may have been driven by drugs he was taking.
